IMPORTANT VUSD MESSAGE - FREEDOM OF SPEECH
We recognize and respect students’ rights to freedom of speech and peaceful expression. Our schools are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students can share their perspectives while respecting the rights and opinions of others. We encourage families to have open conversations with their children about freedom of expression, responsible decision-making, and the importance of understanding school expectations. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay informed about school and district policies, including Regulation 5145.2: Freedom of Speech/Expression.
If students choose to participate in a demonstration or walkout, we encourage families to discuss the importance of personal safety, respectful participation, and the potential impact on instructional time or leading to unexcused absences. While students have the right to express their views, school attendance expectations and established safety procedures remain in place. Families can support their children by staying informed, discussing the responsibilities that come with exercising their rights, and encouraging communication with school administration when questions or concerns arise. Our priority remains ensuring student safety, maintaining a positive learning environment, and supporting students in making informed and responsible choices. For additional information, families may review the San Diego County Office of Education's Resources for Student Walkouts and Protests.
Fun day today! Look for pictures during next Wildcat Weekly on Nov. 6.
LOTS OF FUN DURING OUR RMS FALL FESTIVAL!
STEM AT RMS
🔬⚙️ STEM-Maker Club: Hydraulic Microwave Oven! 🍽️
Our STEM-Maker Club students put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building their own hydraulic microwave ovens! 🛠️ Using cardboard, syringes, tubing, wiring, and other materials, students created mini microwaves with moving parts and a fun beeping feature to signal it opening.
Students explored how hydraulic systems use fluid pressure to create movement while practicing problem-solving, creativity, and engineering design. They had to think like real engineers to bring their inventions to life! đź’ˇ

BRIGHTER BITES PROGRAM AT RMS
The Tech Time Review Family Survey is now open
This is an important opportunity for families to share their experiences, questions, concerns, and recommendations about student technology use during the school day. Survey responses will be considered alongside student and staff input, the district’s technology-use audit, research, and community forum discussions.
The survey will remain open through Sunday, October 11, and the findings will be reviewed during the Tuesday, October 20, community forum. It should take about 10 minutes to complete. The findings become more useful when we hear from a broad range of families, so please complete the survey and encourage other VUSD families to take it as well.
