June 2026Intermediate Education Center

From The Principal's Office From The Principal's Office

Dear IEC Families,

As we enter the final month of another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for your partnership, support, and commitment to our school community. June is always a special time filled with reflection, celebration, and excitement as we recognize the tremendous growth our students have made throughout the year.

This year, our students have demonstrated leadership, perseverance, kindness, and a commitment to learning. Together, we have built a school culture where students are encouraged to discover their strengths, lead with confidence, and make a positive impact on those around them.

As author and educator John C. Maxwell reminds us:

"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way."

Our students have done just that, and we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments throughout the month.

IEC Shines Bright Leadership Day

During this time, I will host a Principal's Chat for Parents from 10:00-10:30 AM. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the amazing things happening at the IEC and celebrate the successes of our students and staff.

This special event will showcase the leadership skills our students have developed throughout the school year. We will have our June assembly and many classrooms will open their doors to share leadership projects, activities, and learning experiences. Please look for information from your classroom teacher.

IEC Celebrates Flag Day

We are excited to host a special Flag Day educational program for our students.

This year's celebration will feature a very special guest speaker, George Cleveland, grandson of President Grover Cleveland, who will share the history and significance of Flag Day and the importance of patriotism and civic responsibility.

Students will participate in:

  • A Flag Day presentation

  • A special guest speaker event

  • A Flag Day Parade

  • A Flag Day Poetry Contest

This promises to be a meaningful and memorable learning experience for our students.

Field Trips and End-of-Year Adventures

June is filled with exciting learning opportunities outside the classroom! Students will participate in several field trips and special activities over the next few weeks.

Field trips provide valuable opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences while creating lasting memories with friends and teachers.

Please watch for communication from your child's teacher regarding trip details, permissions, and reminders.

5th Grade Moving Up Day (MUD) Ceremony

June 24 | 10:00 AM

IEC Auditorium

We invite all 5th-grade families to join us as we celebrate our amazing students during the 5th Grade Moving Up Day Ceremony.

This special event recognizes the accomplishments, growth, and leadership of our students as they prepare for their next chapter in middle school.

To our 5th graders:

"Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out." — Robert Collier

We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to seeing the wonderful things you will achieve in the future.

Summer Learning Matters

As summer approaches, we encourage families to keep learning alive by reading together, exploring new interests, and taking advantage of educational opportunities throughout the community.

Research consistently shows that students who read regularly over the summer return to school better prepared and more confident.

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." — Dr. Seuss

Thank You, IEC Families

Thank you for being such an important part of our school family. Your support, encouragement, and involvement help make the IEC a special place where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

As we finish this school year, I hope you take time to celebrate your child's accomplishments and enjoy a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer together.

"Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them." — Lady Bird Johnson

Thank you for believing in our students and partnering with us every step of the way.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Rodriguez

Congratulations to the 4th and 5th Grade Band, Orchestra, and Chorus students on an outstanding Spring Concert! Our young musicians performed on Tuesday, June 3rd, to a packed High School Auditorium and were thrilled to share their music with family and friends.

This year's concert was especially meaningful as we celebrated the retirement of Mrs. Michelle Zachary, whose dedication to Lewiston-Porter students has left a lasting impact on our music program. As a special surprise, current students and alumni joined together to perform "For Good" in her honor, creating a memorable tribute to her years of service and commitment to music education. Congratulations on an amazing career, Mrs. Zachary!

Mrs. Spinnegan, Mrs. Carere, and Mrs. Zachary are incredibly proud of all of the students for their hard work and wonderful performances. Be sure to check out the Lewiston-Porter Music Facebook page for photos and the live stream recording from this special evening.

The students in Mrs. Broughman's 3rd grade class were treated to a visit from an author!

Gabriella Alfonso, who is the aunt of Zoey Doyle, shared with us her writing process and one of her stories Good Vibes Only Roly. We learned about how she got into writing and even illustrating! Her book gave us ideas on what to do when things don't always go our way.

Gabriella Alfonso has a passion for childhood development and understands the importance of teaching children emotional regulation skills and coping strategies.

IEC students have been taking advantage of the beautiful spring weather by getting outside in Physical Education for some golfing lessons. Last week they worked on hitting targets with irons in a "Top Golf" game. On Thursday, some lucky classes were treated to some tips and tricks from local Golf Pro Matt Clark. Matt is the father of an IEC student and runs youth and adult golf lessons through his business, The Smash Factory. Thank you Matt Clark for sharing your expertise with the us!

On May 14th, the IEC had the pleasure of attending the middle school production of Disney’s Newsies Jr. at the high school. The performance was outstanding, with incredible singing, energetic dancing, and impressive costumes that truly brought the show to life. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed watching our former students shine on stage and showcase their hard work and talent.

A special thank you goes to the Lewiston-Porter Music and Theater Department, as well as music director Mark Marinaccio and stage director Amanda Murray, for their dedication and leadership in creating such a wonderful production. Bravo to the entire cast and crew on a fantastic show!

3rd Grade Birds Program 🐦🦅🐤 3rd Grade Birds Program 🐦🦅🐤

Our third grade students have been participating in an exciting Birds Program filled with hands-on learning and discovery! One of the highlights so far has been meeting Zelda the owl, who visited our school and gave students an up-close look at this amazing bird of prey. Students have also enjoyed outdoor bird watching using binoculars as they searched for and identified different birds around our school grounds. In another engaging lesson, students learned about bird migration through an interactive game that helped them understand how and why birds travel long distances each year. We are looking forward to continuing our bird studies and learning even more in the weeks ahead!

🎶 3rd Grade Students Get a Taste of Music Magic! 🎶 🎶 3rd Grade Students Get a Taste of Music Magic! 🎶

On Wednesday, May 20th, our enthusiastic 3rd graders kicked off their musical journey with an exciting Instrument Recruitment Day! As they prepare to become 4th graders, these students now have the amazing opportunity to join the band or orchestra AND sing in chorus next year!

To help spark their interest, Mrs. Spinnegan and Mrs. Carere teamed up with their talented colleagues, Miss Burdick and Mr. Duncan, who brought along some incredible high school musicians for a special live demonstration at the High School Auditorium. The young audience was treated to a showcase of instruments—from brass to woodwinds to strings—and had the chance to ask questions, explore sounds, and picture themselves on stage one day.

By the end of the presentation, the room was absolutely buzzing with excitement and inspiration. We can’t wait to see which instruments our future musicians will choose! 🎺🥁🎻
