Parking Lot Safety Reminders
May 19, 2026
Sunset Heights Community,
Safety is our first priority at Sunset Heights, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Recently, families and staff have communicated an increasing number of concerns about parking lot safety.
Please note: during arrival, staff members are either outside unloading buses, facilitating the crosswalk or inside the building greeting students and helping them start their day. We want to keep staff focused on welcoming and supporting students, and it would be unfortunate if they needed to be pulled from those responsibilities to monitor the parking lot in order to reinforce safety and expectations.
Drop-Off Concerns (begins at 8:50 a.m.)
5-minute spots used for extended periods
Handicap spots used without a plate/placard
Parking in non-designated areas
Blocking other vehicles/lanes
Students walking to the crosswalk without an adult
Pick-Up Concerns (begins at 3:25 p.m.)
Parking in the lot instead of using the car line
Students crossing without a parent/adult
Reminder: All students being picked up by car should use the car pick-up line.
Summary of Expectations
Arrive no earlier than 8:50 a.m. for drop-off.
Use the car loop for drop-off and the car pick-up line for pick-up.
Park only in marked spots; do not block lanes or other cars.
5-minute spots are short term parking
Handicap spaces require a valid plate/placard.
Students should not walk through the lot alone—an adult must escort them to the crosswalk.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community safe.
I appreciate your attention to this.
