The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: April, 14th 2025
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and was able to enjoy the beautiful weather. For my family, the weekend wrapped up on a high note with some time spent volunteering at the Come See Me Festival—an event that truly brings our community together.
One of the real highlights of the weekend, though, was attending Riverwalk Academy’s Junior/Senior Prom. The event was absolutely fantastic. The prom committee did an outstanding job selecting the theme and transforming the Timber Raille with decorations that perfectly set the tone for a memorable evening.
As I stood there watching the crowning of this year’s Prom King and Queen—congratulations to Carter Fisk and Leah Davis!—and saw our juniors and seniors dancing and celebrating together, I couldn’t help but think back to when many of these students were in fourth and fifth grade. I joined Riverwalk Academy in September of 2017, when our current senior class were just fifth graders. Oh, the stories I could share!
It was incredibly meaningful to see these students experiencing the same milestones we remember from our own high school days. There was a time when people would say things like, “. . . you know, like a real school,” as if our small size somehow made us less. I don’t hear that nearly as much anymore.
And that shift is a testament to our incredible team of teachers and administrators who understand that a well-rounded education extends beyond the classroom. Just like any other school, we have prom—complete with a King and Queen—we have championship athletics, a growing esports team, vibrant honor and service organizations, an award-winning performance band, and student-led clubs like the Art Club.
These experiences matter. They help shape memories, build community, and affirm that every student here is part of something real and meaningful.
Thank you for helping make Riverwalk Academy the special place that it is.
With Pride and Purpose,
Dr. Compton
Photo of the Week
On Friday, a group of our high school students attending Prom had the opportunity to sign the Prom Pledge banner, committing to a sober Prom night.
They also listened to a powerful presentation on the importance of underage sobriety, including real-life stories about the dangers of impaired driving and the devastating impact it can have on so many lives.
We love our students, and it’s incredibly important to us to support their ongoing character development through meaningful commitments like this.
