October 2025

A Message From Your Principal
Dear Cedar Point Families,
October is such an exciting month full of learning and celebration.
Our phenomenal teachers and staff continue to emphasize best practices which help students thrive both academically and socially as we are settling into the rhythm of the school year. It’s been an absolute pleasure to witness all children grow in confidence, curiosity and community spirit.
Reserve your calendars for the upcoming events such as Fall Family Fun Night, Costume Dance Party, and Parent-Teacher Conferences. We hope your families can participate as these are great opportunities to enhance the home/school connection.
I thank you for your partnership and support. Together, we will continue to strengthen a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.
Warm Regards,
Aerica A. Williams

In the Halls of Cedar Point...
Robot Fun!
First grade loved seeing Micron's robot dog in action in September! Each class also had the opportunity to spend time in the Cedar Point Tech Lab. We're looking forward to October, filled with new learning experiences and fun.
Third grade also had the opportunity to visit and interact with the Micron robot dog! Thank you to Micron for making this a possibility for our students!
4th Grade Busy Bees!
Fourth grade has had a great start. In Science, students got to study the planets in our solar system and use our program Gizmo to explore how the planets rotate and revolve. Right now, we are learning about the phases of the moon, the causes for seasons, and why tides occur. In Math, we completed our first unit on place value and jumped right into our Multiplication/Division unit. Please have your child work on memorizing their multiplication facts up to 12x12. In Reading, we completed our Module 1 in our HMH program and began Module 2 with a focus on main idea, summarizing, text and graphic features, and text structure. In Social Studies, students got to become human maps as they were learning about Virginia's geography. Students have their Unit 2 VA Indigenous People end of unit on Friday.
Our fourth graders have been learning about how Indigenous people lived long ago and today. Thank you to Mrs. Ball (Teacher, ID 3-5) who shared all about her family's Native American heritage. Our students were super surprised to learn that a CPES staff member is an Indigenous person from the Mohegan tribe of Connecticut!

Counselor's Corner
Hello all!
We love checking back in with all the students as they get back into the routine of school! In encore, we have already discussed the role of the counselor, friendship, kindness, mindfulness, worrying, and we are starting to discuss bullying. Small groups will be starting soon, so be on the lookout if your child is selected for a small group!
In October, we will also be discussing Medicine Safety. Be on the lookout for an opt-out for that lesson soon.
As always, we have shared a breathing technique to share with your students.
-Ms. Scott & Ms. Ferentinos (Th/F)

If your student is interested in participating, please have them pick up a contest paper from Mrs. Garber. Make sure student name, grade and teacher is written clearly on the back of the artwork, create a patriotic design that expresses thanks to our Veterans, and return completed artwork to your child's teacher or Mrs. Garber no later than Oct. 17 to be considered for the Veterans Day program cover.
