Irvington WeeklyNewsletterMay 30, 2025
Wow, what an amazing talent show today! It was incredible to see all our students' work, and I'm so proud of everyone who got up in front of hundreds of people to perform! Can't wait for next year!

A Staffing Update for Next School Year

Please read this personal update from Ms Hinatsu: "I would like to share an update regarding my position for next school year. At the moment, there are more unassigned teachers than there are vacancies for the 2025-26 school year. The district presented an opportunity for teachers to take a one year leave of absence to help prevent potential layoffs. After careful consideration, I've decided to take advantage of this opportunity, which will also allow me to spend more time with my family. Additionally, I hope it will help support our staffing and the overall stability of our school. I will miss working with all of your wonderful children next year! However, you may see me around Irvington subbing here and there. Thank you for your understanding and support."

While we will miss Ms Hinatsu next year, we are glad that she will get to spend more time with her family, and we look forward to seeing her the following school year when she returns!

This change also means that Mr. Ogletree is able to stay at Irvington, as a second grade teacher next year. We are excited that he is able to stay on as a part of the Irvington family!

Class Lists for Next School Year

Now that we're getting close to the end of the school year, teachers are starting the process of working on class lists for next school year. This is a process that extends into the summer (we need to include any new students and make adjustments if anyone moves out of the neighborhood), so we cannot share final lists until August. You will be able to see your child's teacher on ParentVue then, and we will also mail out welcome letters.

Making class lists is incredibly hard. There are no perfect answers, and we have many competing factors to consider in order to find the right fit for your child. For that reason, we do not take family requests into account when making these lists. Our goal is to make the best decision for all students, and we appreciate your understanding as we take this on!

Library Books Due Monday

All library books are due Monday, June 2. Please check your homes for any lost books this weekend!

Neurodiversity Caregivers Chat on Tuesday

This is a group for parents and caregivers of students who experience neurodiversity. We meet about once per month to network with other parents and caregivers and discuss such things as the different ways our students’ school experiences take shape, or how to navigate the IEP process. Our interpretation of neurodiversity is comprehensive and includes (but is not limited to) anxiety, autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Our next and last meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 2, right after drop off in the PTA room. If you have questions or would like to know more about this group, email Amy Dachtler at amydachtler@gmail.com.

Final Restaurant Night at Lazy Days Brewing Co.

The last restaurant fundraiser night of the year is next Wednesday, June 4, at Lazy Days Brewing Co. from 3-9pm. Located at 2326 N Flint Ave, Lazy Days offers fresh and hearty pub grub, from Detroit-style pizzas to burgers and fries, with vegan and gluten free options. There's something for everyone in our neighborhood! This is a Dine-In Only event with 10% of all dine-in sales being donated to Irvington School. Check out their menu here, and see you there!

Lunch Servers Needed in June

While it is a very busy time with summer approaching, we still need helpers in the kitchen! There are a number of remaining slots in June. Fifth grade families, if you’ve always wanted to serve lunch but have never gotten around to it, now is your chance! Come see the amazing food and supportive environment our beloved kitchen staff offer to our kids each and every day.

Parent Pick-Up Basketball

The next Irvington Parent Pickup basketball is June 6, 5:30-7:30 in the Irvington gym. Parents, guardians, and staff are welcome to come play basketball, have a chance to get some exercise, and meet some other folks associated with the school. Join us for a bit of socializing and reliving the glory days. Adults only, please (kids are welcome to hang out on the playground if old enough). Spectators are welcome and encouraged to provide light heckling.

Last PTA Meeting: Save the Date <REPEAT>

The last PTA general meeting will be Monday, June 2, from 5:30-7:30pm. We will celebrate a wonderful school year, elect next year’s PTA officers, and vote on the preliminary 2025-2026 PTA budget. All are welcome and we hope to see you there!

Lost and Found Every Tuesday <REPEAT>

Come find your child’s lost items every Tuesday starting next week til the end of the year! Lost and found items will be on display under the covered area after school on Tuesdays 6/3 and 6/10, and before school on Tuesday 6/10, as well. Unclaimed items will be donated after the 6/10 event.
