Prevention Day

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Prevention Day is the nation’s largest federally hosted event dedicated to advancing substance use and misuse prevention by bringing together professionals from both public and private sectors.

During the event, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. announced a new national plan to strengthen prevention and expand treatment, including a $100 million investment to address homelessness, reduce opioid addiction, and improve public safety through recovery-focused care.

Each year, Prevention Day:

  • highlights emerging and evidence-based prevention strategies, policies, programs, and research,

  • features a Prevention Action Center with exhibits and practical resources, and

  • centers on the theme “Telling the Prevention Story,” celebrating prevention successes and inspiring action.

Perfetti Van Melle Donates 500 Bubble Gum Packs for Pop the Stigma on National Bubblegum Day

Our team is excited to spotlight out initiative, Pop The Stigma. Pop The Stigma is all about breaking the silence on mental health and substance use. We’re helping students learn about emotions, stress, coping strategies, and where to find support.

On February 6th, every Bellevue student K–12 received a pack of bubble gum that was labeled with a QR code linking to helpful resources. A big shoutout to our S.M.I.L.E. Club members for helping distribute gum to grades 6–12, while our team shared packs with K–5 students.

Let’s keep the conversation going and remember: asking for help is a sign of strength!

Support is always here when you need it. If you or someone you know needs immediate help, reach out to the North Key 24/7 Crisis Hotline at 859-331-3292, or call or text 988. In any medical emergency, dial 9-1-1 right away.

The 5-4-3-2-1 method is a simple grounding exercise often used to help manage anxiety, stress, or overwhelming emotions. It works by bringing your attention to the present moment through your five senses.

  • 5 – See: Name 5 things you can see.

  • 4 – Touch: Notice 4 things you can feel.

  • 3 – Hear: Listen for 3 sounds around you.

  • 2 – Smell: Identify 2 scents.

  • 1 – Taste: Focus on 1 thing you can taste.

    This month's Character Trait is....

    Honesty!

Honesty isn’t always easy — in our words, our actions, or even our thoughts. 💛
But when we practice being honest with ourselves, we can better recognize how we feel and learn healthy ways to manage those emotions.

So… what does honesty mean to you?
When we choose truth in our words, actions, and thoughts, we are truly living the trait of honesty.

🎵 Be sure to check out our honesty music video!

    Fun Activities!

    Mindful Moments

Ask students to hold up 10 fingers to represent candles. Students will take a deep breath in through their noses. When they exhale, students will slowly blow out each candle 1 at a time as they fold each finger down. Repeat this breathing exercise 3 times. Ask students, “How does your body feel?” Students’ bodies should feel light and calm. Discuss how when people tell the truth, their bodies have the same light feeling.
