A Note From the Principal A Note From the Principal

Thank you for joining us for fall parent-teacher conferences and for partnering with us to support your child’s growth and development. It is an honor to serve your families, and your feedback is always welcome as we continue working to improve our service to your children (see QR code at the bottom of the newsletter)

I’m grateful for your continued support of the staff and school—including the amazing spread of food the PTO provided for our staff lunch. I was truly overwhelmed by your generosity! The book fair, supported by volunteers and run through the Homer Bookstore for the first time and staffed by volunteers, was also a great success this week.

Welcome Our New Staff! Welcome Our New Staff!

We have a few new faces at school! Please join me in welcoming Melanie Engebretson, Gabe Dash, Melissa James and Debbie Speakman to the orca pod. Melanie and Gabe are paraprofessionals and you will see them supporting students throughout the school. Melissa is new to the Homer area and you can catch her in the lunchroom checking kids out. Debbie will be taking on the library. Check out her spooky decorations at the Booook Fair!

Student Drop off and Pick-Up Line Safety Student Drop off and Pick-Up Line Safety

We have had some challenges with parents dropping kids off in the parking lot and skipping the drop off line. There is very little difference in time saved and it causes a safety issue.

PLEASE make sure you come through the pick up line if you are not going to park and walk in with your child. The drop off line is not for parking and exiting your vehicle. This creates a safety hazard and holds up the efficiency of the drop off line.

It's Getting Dark Outside- School Safety It's Getting Dark Outside- School Safety

As the darkness settles in we thought it would be a good time to talk about student walking safety. If your student walks to school, please use reflective tape or stickers to make them more visible to traffic. We have had several concerned phone calls from drivers not being able to see kids walking to school. It is important that you talk with your kids about using sidewalks and crosswalks along the roadway. Nurse Melisa has reflective tape and stickers outside of her office for anyone who needs them.

If a student wants to charge for seconds or extra drinks they have to have money on their lunch account or money in hand. If a student is on Free Hot Lunch they will also need money on their account for seconds or extra drinks. It is important that you remember to pay your lunch account balances.
