School Store is Back!
The School Store and its fresh new cart will be set up outside on the blacktop during recess on Friday, October 23rd. This PTO fundraiser is a great way for your kids to freshen up their desk while practicing shopping with a budget!
The store will be selling school supplies, fidgets, and seasonal items between $0.25 and $5.00. Please send change and small bills in a ziplock bag with your child’s name and teacher on it.
PTO Dues Update!
See you Thursday
Our mandatory training is October 22 at 7:00 in the multipurpose room for all parents/caretakers who will spend 3+ hours with students during the school day or at after-hours events through June. This includes all Classroom Coordinators, multiple lunch duty signups, CAS Learning Garden, Roller Skating Night, Family Game Night, Family Fun Fest, and any involvement with CAS students through school programs. Plus stick around at 7:30 pm for our first PTO meeting of the year. We’ll answer questions, look at the budget, preview upcoming events, and detail our new 4th grade fundraising model. Don’t miss it!
One School, So Many Stories
Help us celebrate our annual CAS International Day on November 2. Small groups of students will spend 10 minutes at each stop as parents present their family’s culture and heritage. Let us know if you’re interested and join us for a quick virtual orientation on October 20 at 7pm. Volunteers who participated in the past are encouraged to join in again.
Honoring Veterans in our Community
The CAS Flag Committee is raising funds to honor the service and sacrifice of our local veterans. Families will have the opportunity to sponsor a flag in honor of a veteran—a family member, friend, or community hero. Each flag will proudly fly along our Flag Walkway in early November in honor of Veterans Day, with a laminated card detailing the veteran’s name plus branch and dates of service.
How it works:
- $5 donation: Sponsor a flag in honor of a veteran
- $10 donation: Sponsor a flag and have it given to the family after the display ends
Sales start Monday! All proceeds will go to a New Jersey-based Veteran organization
Proceeds will go to a New Jersey-based Veteran organization and support flag replacements around our building. Flags will be returned to the student’s homeroom at the end of the outdoor display.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Cyrana at cyranaa@madisonnjps.org.
We’re More Alike Than Different
October is a BIG month for celebrating differences so Central Avenue School had to get in on the action! On October 12th the students attended the Annual CAS Differences Appreciation Assembly highlighting Down Syndrome Awareness Month and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) Awareness Month. Student Council 5th graders read, “Different - A Great Thing To Be” by Heather Avis aloud to the students while special guests Christine and Makayla Kosakowski (local shop owner/advocate, mother and sister of Sal) and Misty Coy Snyder (local advocate, author of Happiness is Down Syndrome and mother of Jed) led the student body in a lesson and powerful discussion about Down syndrome. Students heard quotes from individuals with Down syndrome from Misty’s newly published book by Wiley Publishing.
