Inside Scoop
Hockinson High School - 2026-2027

Hello, Hawks:
Happy Friday! It has been a busy week for the Hawks. Earlier this week, we celebrated a first - no phones or personal electronic devices were confiscated. We celebrated with ice cream for all students and staff. I'm still convinced there was collusion between the two groups, but that is a mystery I'll just have to leave unsolved.
There is so much to celebrate and be proud of, so read more below!

AP Testing Payment and Spring Schedule
If your student is currently taking an Advanced Placement (AP) class, it is now time to start ordering exams. I strongly encourage any student enrolled in an AP class to take the exam for that course.
Each exam is $99 between now and November 1. After November 1, the fee goes to $150 per exam.
To make payments:
- With credit card or debit card - go to our high school payment portal online.
- With cash or check - go to our ASB Office.
PSATs - October 14
ALL Hockinson High School Juniors take the PSATs free-of-charge on October 14. This is a sign of our belief and investment in our students. Regardless of the career path you are on, you will take a high-stakes test. And who knows? Maybe you'll open some other doors that you didn't think were available to you.
October 14, 2026 - ALL Juniors; Sophomores can opt to take this test for $20 (if a sophomore takes it in the fall, they cannot take it in the spring)
Spring 2027 - Sophomores can take this test as long as they did not take it in the fall; this test is also open to Freshmen

Senior Off-Campus Pass Information
Hockinson High School is launching our program allowing seniors to leave campus for lunch once a month. This initiative rewards students, supports local businesses, and builds time management and responsibility.
Key Details & Requirements:
Eligibility: Seniors on track to graduate with good attendance (0 unexcused absences, no more than 3 tardies in the issuance month).
Mandatory Permission Slip: Parents/guardians must opt-in. No signed form = no pass. Forms require signatures from both the parent/guardian and the student.
Accountability: Returning late results in losing the pass for the following month. Off-campus privileges will be revoked for the entire year for drug/alcohol/vape violations or for transporting non-qualifying students off campus.
Note: This is a trial project. Future frequency or full continuation of the program depends on student compliance and community feedback.

Some Recent Updates
Girls Soccer - Still undefeated! The girls kept their perfect record alive in dramatic fashion, moving to 5-0 in league play after an electric overtime victory against Washougal.
Boys Golf: What a marathon week! The team played a match every single day and picked up three impressive wins over Mark Morris, Union, and Woodland.
Boys Tennis: The squad continues to make great strides week after week, capping off their progress with a big win over Mark Morris. Come support the team on Monday at 3:00 PM as we celebrate our seniors!
Football: Sitting at 2-1 as they head into their second league battle of the season. Pack the stands tonight at 7:00 PM as our boys take on Ridgefield at home.
Volleyball: Split their matches this week (1-1) and currently hold a strong 4th-place standing in the league as they keep building momentum.
Cross Country: Packing their bags and headed to Spokane this weekend to compete against top regional competition at the Bob Firman Invite. Good luck, runners!
Academic Eligibility
Our first grade check for fall athletes will be on Monday, September 28. Student athletes must have a 2.0 GPA and no more than one F to continue to be eligible to compete in fall sports. Grades will be pulled from the Qmlativ gradebook that day so there is no need for students to do anything except their homework! The second grade check will be around October 8 and the final grade check for Fall Sports will be November 5. Students are encouraged to check their grades on a weekly basis in Qmlativ so there are no surprises.
🏆 Extracurricular Reminders & Academic Eligibility
Participation in athletics, theatre, band, and clubs is a privilege, and we encourage all students to get involved! To remain eligible:
Attendance: Students must attend all classes on a given day to participate in after-school events or practices. If a student has a doctor's appointment during the day, they must return to school with an official doctor’s note to be cleared for practice or activities.
Academic Standards: Students must be enrolled full-time, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, and have no more than one failing grade. Grade checks will take place every 3–4 weeks throughout each season.
🤝 Extracurricular Code of Conduct
We expect our student participants to hold themselves to the highest standards across three key areas:
Classroom: Arrive on time, stay in class, maintain passing grades, respect teachers and peers, and take responsibility for missed work during early dismissals for travel.
Practice: Arrive on time, follow directions, respect teammates, and care for equipment and facilities.
Games & Travel: Follow school rules during transport, represent our high school positively, and show respect to officials, opponents, and host facilities.
Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Emilie Willis (Grade 12), a member of the HHS Volleyball program, for being named Athlete of the Week for the third week of the fall season! Congratulations, Emilie. Keep up the great effort!

CTE Update
Something new I want to do this year is share something neat happening in our growing CTE program.
Our CTE Advisory Committee suggested that the CTE classroom/computer lab be rearranged to help foster collaboration. The new desk arrangement allows the Introduction to Architecture students to collaborate, discuss, and view each other's drawings as they learn. The other CTE course that operates out of this space is Yearbook.
