Erin's Law Presentations - April 23, 2025
During the day on April 23, 2025, Prevention Educators from the Knox County Child Advocacy Center will be here to give a presentation to our students on Personal Body Safety. They will be reading a book and going over a presentation with the children that is designed for their age group. They will also have a short discussion on safe and unsafe touches, and the “No, Go, Tell” rule. This is not a sex education or body identification talk in any way, only a prevention presentation to help innocent children protect themselves without scaring them.
A child can be abused anywhere and at any time, and abusers do not look different than anyone else. Child sexual abuse is more common than many people would like to think, and its effects can be devastating. One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused by age 18.
If you would like to have your child excluded from this presentation please return the signed form or message your child’s teacher by April 22, 2025.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities for CUSD #205 Students
This summer, Galesburg CUSD #205 is excited to partner with Camp Kidz, Carl Sandburg College, and Knox College to offer enriching opportunities for our students. With an emphasis on educational growth and exploration, we encourage families to take advantage of the scholarships available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don't miss out on this chance for your child to experience new activities and gain valuable skills! Please note that transportation will not be provided by District #205. We look forward to an amazing summer filled with learning and fun!
Camp Kidz
District #205 will provide up to 30 scholarships for #205 students to attend Camp Kidz. Any CUSD #205 student ages 5-21 with a diagnosed disability is eligible to attend. Carl Sandburg College Dual Credit
District #205 will provide scholarships for available dual credit courses offered by Carl Sandburg College this summer for students entering grades 10-12. Students earning a passing grade in a dual credit course will receive both high school and college credit. Students can use the scholarship for a maximum of one course this summer. Students who are already registered and have paid may be reimbursed for costs. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, the steps for a student to take are as follows:
Apply to Carl Sandburg College at www.sandburg.edu/apply. (new students to CSC only need to apply).
Schedule to take the Accuplacer test. To sign up, go to www.sandburg.edu/accuplacer and then visit campus to take it. Note the student must score 247 or higher to take BIO 101, ENG 101 and PSY 101. All other courses require a score of 227 or higher. For the Math portion, a score of 256 or higher is required for college coursework unless high school courses or SAT/ACT scores waive this requirement.
The student should then schedule a meeting with their high school counselor to determine what classes best fit their needs, as well as complete the registration form.
CSC will then bill District #205 for the first 25 students to take advantage of this opportunity. Summer courses begin on Monday, May 19, 2025.

April's Character Strong Theme - Responsibility
This month we are talking about Responsibility. One way to define Responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others. Responsibility is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong. Across grade levels students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.
Have some fun connecting as a family this month while practicing Responsibility. Here are 2 “PurposeFull Pursuits” you can complete together!
- As a family, think of ways in which you might make someone’s life a little easier by helping a neighbor or family friend with 1 of their Responsibilities. Could you bring the garbage to the chute or out to the curb? Could you carry things in from the grocery store? Could you invite someone over for a meal or a show?
- Review Responsibility as a family! Responsibility is taking action and understanding the impact of our choices. Choose 1 household chore (or more!) that requires multiple steps. Then have each member of the family select 1 step to complete to help get the job done! Maybe it’s washing the dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the living room, or unloading the groceries – whatever it is, see who can be the quickest or most effective at their task!

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also progress in development of social attitudes and work habits.
We use a 4,3,2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.
4 = Exceeding State and District Standards
3 = Meeting State and District Standards
2 = Approaching State and District Standards
1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
