Forward Exam Results
In the summer of 2025, families of students in grades 3-8 and 10 received information about their children’s Forward Exam scores from last Spring. Recently, data about Forward Exam scores were released across the state.
We know that the Forward Exam is just one measure of what McFarland students know and are able to do, but we do look at the results carefully to find areas of celebration and growth as a District. Our District strategic plan puts literacy achievement front and center with a specific focus on closing gaps between students in various demographic groups (for example, between students with and without disabilities).
When looking at the Spring 2025 Forward Exam results, we noticed:
More students are meeting or exceeding expectations in ELA for every grade 3-8 compared to last year.
McFarland students perform better than the State average in all subjects and grades.
McFarland was fifth in the county in ELA and Math out of 19 districts.
McFarland had the #1 rank in Dane County in the following areas:
Social Studies: All Tested Grades ! (4th, 8th, and 10th).
Math: 5th grade
We will continue our work to close achievement gaps between students at our school and focus on research-based instructional practices in all subjects to help us meet our strategic plan goals.

Please check in at the Angie O'Donnell Aquatic Center before starting your walk. District Highlights
IMMS Outdoor Education at Timber-lee
IMMS 6th graders traded desks for the great outdoors during an unforgettable two-day, one-night adventure at Camp Timber-lee in East Troy, WI!
From Canoeing to Geology to up-close Animal Encounters, students explored, learned, and connected with nature, and each other in amazing ways.
This annual experience is more than just camp; it's about building confidence, curiosity, and community.
Huge thanks to our incredible volunteers, staff, and students who make it all possible!
Professional Development for Staff!
Thanks to grant funding, all McFarland staff had the honor of hearing Dr. Shelley Moore’s inspiring keynote on designing inclusive lessons that make learning more accessible for all students. Her message challenged and motivated us to meet the needs of every learner, every day. #McFarlandStrong
MPS Student Authors!
Big cheers for Mrs. Albrecht and Mrs. Punzel’s 2nd graders at MPS! They just shared their very first writing project with new friends to celebrate their first published piece. Way to go, young authors! #McFarlandStrong
