Mr. Sam Mascarenas

With 23 years in education, including 20 as a dedicated math teacher, I’ve always believed in the power of a teacher's influence. Whether in the classroom or on the field during my 17 years as a football coach and 2 years coaching softball, I’ve seen how just a little encouragement can push a student to achieve more than they thought possible. Education has always been my calling, and I’m proud to be part of a profession that changes lives.

Outside of school, I enjoy life to the fullest—riding motorcycles with my family, camping, fishing, and taking care of our lively crew of animals, which includes 15 chickens, 2 mini pigs, a goat, and 4 dogs. I’ve been happily married for 23 years to my amazing wife, and we’ve raised five wonderful children who are now all grown. Lately, I’ve been learning to play guitar and rediscovering my love for music. Above all, I believe life should be filled with laughter, and I try to bring that joy into everything I do.

Mrs. Roxanne Starr-Trujillo

I’m so excited to be joining the Jag family as one of your new Associate Principals! A lifelong Santa Fe resident, I’ve spent my 15-year career in Santa Fe Public Schools, serving in roles including special education teacher, and administrator, and in other schools as a Varsity Cheer Coach. I hold a Bachelor's degree and an MBA, which have helped shape my approach to leadership and education. I’m passionate about building strong relationships and creating a school environment where every student feels seen, supported, and challenged to grow.

Outside of school you will find me with my family, outdoors, or with my pets. I also love to bake when I have the time.

I look forward to getting to know our students and families—and partnering with you to make this a great year for everyone.

Ms. Tyra Maxwell

My name is Tyra Maxwell. I am the only child to Dr. Gresham and Dr. Macchi. I attended undergraduate and majored in Architectural studies receiving a BFA. As an entrepreneur and commercial designer I shadowed the renowned Zaha Hadid. Before retiring from the industry, I founded the design firm, Design Beyond Limits, a subsidiary of Ethan Allen commercial division. In addition to the BFA, I hold a Master’s of Art in Marketing and 60 hours in my doctoral program. I finished the dissertation but the content expert at the college irritated my nerves so I stopped the research - thus inabling me to walk across the stage. I interviewed over 60 leaders in the United States and in Europe to complete the dissertation in Organizational Leadership. “Are leaders born or are they developed?” As an educator, I have taught at Baker University, Kansas City Kansas Community College and in both suburban and urban High Schools.

I am happily divorced with two daughters and one grandson. I enjoy contemporary art with mix-media and an exploration of animated themes and nature. Bird watching and attending art exhibitions is therapy for me. I was raised practicing Islam adhering to the core tenets and of the Islamic faith, often summarized as the Five Pillars. I no longer attend Mosques. I respect and honor Islam however my adult practice is Buddhism. I hold submission to meditation three times a day. It is my philosophy, “Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how one feels after interaction with you is your trademark.” Kindness is free, let us all practice it.

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Regular daily attendance is one of the most important factors in your child’s success at school. Each day of instruction builds on the previous one, and missing even a single day can make it harder for students to keep up with lessons, assignments, and class discussions. Consistent attendance not only supports stronger academic performance but also helps students develop responsibility, time management, and habits that prepare them for college and future careers. Being present every day also allows students to build positive relationships with their teachers and peers, which strengthens their sense of belonging and motivation. We encourage you to help your child make daily attendance a priority so they can take full advantage of every learning opportunity.
