Odyssey of the Mind Odyssey of the Mind

Incredible News: On Saturday, members of the Log College Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team competed in the Southeast Pennsylvania Regional Tournament. The students, led by 7th Grade science teacher Ms. Eckhardt, that competed in the tournament today included Matthew C, Todd N, Tyler J, Everett P, & Addison M. For the problem that they selected, they needed to build a robot that was capable of judging, dismantling, and rebuilding artwork. They also participated in a spontaneous problem (in which they had 10 minutes to work together and solve a random problem presented to them upon entry to the competition). The team has officially earned first place in the Southeast Pennsylvania Regional tournament, and they are advancing to the Pennsylvania State Tournament in April.

Women's History Month Women's History Month

Women's History Month Women's History Month is an annual celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society. Since 1987, the United States has officially designated the month of March as Women's History Month.

Here are a few ways in which Log College will celebrate Women’s History Month.

  • Students will write thank you letters to women in their lives recognizing the positive impacts they have made.

  • Students will identify famous women and conduct basic research focused on recognizing the positive contributions towards society.

  • Students will explore several cultural pieces created by women and reflect how it impacts society today.

  • Students will identify contributions and historical facts regarding women through daily announcements and posters hung throughout the school.

Intermediate Art Class Intermediate Art Class

Students in Mrs. Schenfelt's Intermediate Art classes recently finished up their drawing unit. They learned how to build a still life composition, using several artistic techniques like leading lines, L-shaped structures, and the rule of thirds. They also gained an understanding about the audience's perspective and different views and how to create dramatic lighting. They then sharpened their drawing and shading skills with warm-up activities that taught how light interacts with objects. The final culmination of all these skills is shown in their amazing still life pencil drawings.

8th Grade Science 8th Grade Science

Mr. Watkins’ science classes have been working on a special Science Engineering project that will prepare them to meet the new Science standards set forth by the state of Pennsylvania. In a simulation students were hired to design a series of health bars that will feed people in regions affected by natural disasters, with a particular emphasis on populations who have health needs beyond what can be provided by emergency services. Classes developed nutrition bars that provided the proper balance of protein and carbohydrates for target populations. Students worked as food engineer interns at Futura Engineering and applied their understanding of metabolism in designing recipes for bars that balance three criteria: the metabolic needs of a target population, taste, and cost. In order to address metabolic needs, interns looked at protein, carbohydrates, and the glycemic index of different ingredients. Then Growth and Repair Tests were completed and design elements were used to create the bars needed to meet metabolic needs of target populations.
