Stevenson High School
October 16, 2026
Dear Stevenson Families and Students,
Thank you to our entire school community for making Homecoming Week such a wonderful success, culminating in a well-organized and well-attended dance!
We encourage all families to join us for our last home football game of the season. The theme for the night is "Pink Out: Fight Against Breast Cancer." During the game, we will honor individuals who have battled cancer and those who continue the fight. Our players will be wearing special tribute jerseys featuring name plates to honor loved ones and community members impacted by cancer.
I want to share a few important reminders and updates as we approach the end of Marking Period 1, which officially ends on Friday, October 23rd.
Common Summative Assessments will be administered during the week of October 19th. Please note that CSAs will count as 20% of a student's Marking Period 1 grade. We encourage all students to prepare as best they can to finish the marking period strong! Please note the specific testing schedule below:
Thursday, October 22nd (Full Day of School): Students will take MP1 CSAs in Hours 1, 2, & 3. (No Spartan Time)
Friday, October 23rd (Half Day, 7:25 AM – 10:35 AM): Students will take MP1 CSAs in Hours 4, 5, & 6.
Career Center Students (3/4 Block): Students enrolled in the 3/4 Block will take their CSA on Thursday, October 22nd. These students will NOT report to their 3/4 Block Career Center class on Friday, October 23rd.
7th hour students will take their CSA on Wednesday, October 21st.
We are so grateful for the continued support, dedication, and spirit of our wonderful school community, and we look forward to another great week ahead!

Take A Closer Look at Reflections
Reflections is a multi-level arts program that brings students, families, and communities together through the creativity.
Each year, students create original works of art in response to a student-created theme. Students can enter one or more arts categories and participate the program division that best fits their grade level or support needs. Based on options available in each state, winning entries may advance for additional recognition at the state and national levels.
Reflections Theme: “What My Culture Means to Me”
In Reflections, each entry must be an original creation inspired by the annual student-created Reflections theme. The theme is what makes Reflections special because every student uses the same theme, no matter their experience with making art.
Each theme inspires students to create and share their ideas through artwork. PTAs use the to engage their entire community in creativity and art-making.

NAVIGATING SHS
HOW TO RELEASE YOUR STUDENT EARLY
We do not call students out of class based on a parent phone call to the office. Please follow one of these methods:
- To have your student waiting in the office for you: Send a note with them to take (first thing in the morning) to their assistant principal's office before school starts. They will receive a pass to come to the office at the time you designate for their checkout pass. This method is beneficial because the student's attendance will be taken care of in advance, avoiding those robocalls letting you know that your student was absent.
- If you do not send a note: Please call the office about 1.5 - 2 hours before you want the student dismissed. We prepare a pass and have your student ready to go upon your arrival. If you pick up your student in the afternoon, you will receive a robocall regarding the absence. The absence will be excused the following morning by the Attendance Secretary.
IMPORTANT: Anyone picking up a student must show their ID when they arrive. The person picking up the student MUST be in the list of that student's contacts.

Many colleges and universities have a deadline of November 1st for Early Action for the Common Application.
Counselors have a required portion of the Common Application to complete in order for the application to be complete.
In order to ensure that the counselor portion is complete by the November 1st deadline you must submit your request to us by 3pm on Monday October 26th.

Question on the Week: How can I help my student deal with test anxiety?
Helping Your Teen Beat Test Anxiety 📝
It is common for middle and high school students to feel nervous before a big exam. However, when nervousness turns into test anxiety, it can impact their grades and well-being. Parents can play a huge role in helping students stay calm and confident. Here is a quick guide to help your teen beat test anxiety.
Before the Test: Build Healthy Habits 🗓️
Ditch the cramming: Encourage your teen to study a little bit each day rather than staying up late the night before.
Practice the real thing: Have them use practice tests with a timer to get used to the feel of the actual exam.
Prioritize sleep: Ensure your teen gets a full night of rest, as a tired brain struggles to recall information.
Fuel the body: Serve balanced meals and limit sugary snacks or energy drinks, which can cause jittery feelings.
Move around: Suggest a quick walk or exercise session to help release built-up stress.
During the Test: Smart In-The-Moment Strategies ⏱️
Take deep breaths: Teach your teen to take slow, deep breaths to naturally lower their heart rate when anxiety spikes.
Build momentum: Remind them to answer the easiest questions first to boost their confidence.
Skip and return: Advise them not to get stuck on a single hard question; they can always circle back to it later.
Change the self-talk: Remind your teen that a test score does not define their worth and perfection is not the goal.
Lean On Your School Team 🤝
You do not have to do this alone! Our schools offer several free tools to help your student prepare and feel supported:
🍎 Teacher Support: Encourage your teen to talk to their teachers directly during extra help hours to clarify confusing topics.
🏫 Homework Club: A structured, quiet space after school where students can finish assignments and get organized.
👥 Peer Tutoring: Students can sign up to work one-on-one with fellow students who understand the material well.
🧠 Counseling Department: Our school counselors are always available to teach students advanced stress-management techniques.
By working together on these habits and utilizing our school support systems, you can help your student face their next exam with a clear mind and a confident attitude!
