CTMS Family Newsletter
Wonderful Wolf Families,
What a great start to the 2025-2026 school year! Having the halls full of our wolves made the building come alive. During the first three days of school, our pack learned what it means to be a wolf and defined the Wolf Way. Wolves are kind, respectful, and responsible. Click here to see the presentation shared with all wolves during the first day of school assemblies.
Howl to our supportive and kind PTA for the delicious breakfast on Friday! Such a delicious way to end the first week of school!
We are looking forward to seeing you this Tuesday, August 19, at CTMS Mini-School Night (middle school version of curriculum night)! This is an incredible opportunity to meet your wolf's teacher, see your wolf's friends, and visit with other wolf families. The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with the first CTMS General PTA Meeting of the school year. See below for more information.
Looking forward to our first full week of the 2025-2026 school year and seeing each of you on Tuesday night!
Howl,
Jamie Halliburton
CTMS Principal
CTMS Mini-School Night & PTA Meeting
Purpose: Mini-school night is an opportunity to get an overview of the courses your wolf is taking, meet your wolf's teachers, visit classrooms, walk your wolf's schedule, purchase some wolf gear (cash or check), learn about and support CTMS PTA, and meet other wolf families.
What to expect: You will spend seven minutes in each of the eight classes your wolf goes to at CTMS daily. Teachers will share a snapshot of what to expect this school year in their classes.
What to bring: Wolves are welcome to join in the fun. If your wolf is not joining you, take a picture of their schedule so you can rotate from class to class.
The PTA meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and first period starts at 6:00 p.m. Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening!
AVID Students and Families: Please join your AVID Teachers from 7:30 pm - 7:45 pm in the Library at the end of Curriculum Night as we review the importance of the AVID Student Contract and sign the contract together.
Senate Bill 12 Requirements and Updates
Senate Bill 12, passed during the 89th Legislative session, requires school districts to obtain parent permission for student club participation as well as health services and school-based counseling and support services. It also contains requirements for sharing instructional plans and the prohibition of assisting with social transitioning. The new laws go into effect for the 2025-2026 school year. Families should review the information below and log into their student’s Skyward account to complete the pop-up permission forms.
Student Club Participation
SB 12 requires that parents give written consent before a student may participate in a student club authorized or sponsored by the school. School districts may not authorize or sponsor a student club based on sexual orientation or gender identity. All clubs authorized or sponsored by GCISD will be in accordance with all applicable laws and policies.
If a parent does not give general permission, they will be contacted about each individual club or activity for which their student expresses interest in attending. A paper permission form will be sent home and must be completed and returned to the school prior to the student being permitted to attend or participate in any club meetings.
Health Services
SB 12 requires that staff must have parent consent before providing a student with any care, unless it is a life-threatening emergency. This includes:
Assessment of minor injuries and providing basic first aid (like a scraped knee)
Assessment and management of common health issues and illnesses
Checking vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and pulse oximetry
Monitoring chronic conditions and implementing care plans as appropriate

Proving state mandated screenings
Administration of epinephrine delivery system for anaphylactic reaction or an opioid antagonist, such as Narcan or naloxone, in accordance with TEC and GCISD Board Policy
Application of topical preparations such as Aloe Vera gel, first aid spray, Benadryl cream, etc.
Additionally, you will find a full list of detailed services provided by GCISD campus nurses within the form in Skyward.
School-Based Counseling Services and Support Services
SB 12 requires that parents give permission prior to student participation in school-based counseling and support services. This includes setting academic goals and creating academic plans, guidance lessons, developing social well-being, and access to our character education curriculum, known as Character Strong.
What Support May Include:
Setting academic goals and creating academic plans
Developing social well-being
Checking in about emotions, challenges, or concerns
Learning coping strategies and managing stress
Addressing school-related issues (e.g., attendance, test anxiety, behavior, peer conflict)

Guidance lessons utilizing the Character Strong program
Participating in short-term individual or group sessions on school-related topics*
*Parents/guardians will be notified and asked for additional consent if individual or group counseling is recommended.
School Counseling Does Not Include:

Assistance with social transitioning
Sharing Instructional Plans
SB 12 requires that teachers share an instructional plan or course syllabus with parents at the start of each semester. Teachers will email parents directly using email addresses provided in Skyward.
Prohibition of Assisting with Social Transitioning
SB 12 prohibits school district employees from assisting students with social transitioning, which includes helping them change their name, pronouns, or other expressions of gender identity that differ from their biological sex at birth.
Any applicable GCISD policies will be amended to be in alignment with state law.

i-Ready
Our district will continue using i-Ready this year, building on the foundation we established last year. As we enter our second year of implementation, our focus is on refining our approach and maximizing the effective use of the teacher toolbox lessons for personalized instruction in reading and mathematics for our K-8 students. Our aim remains to give teachers more time for classroom instruction and to bring even greater coherence to instruction, intervention, and acceleration.
The i-Ready diagnostic assessment for reading and mathematics will be completed by your wolf this week on Wednesday and Thursday. This diagnostic continues to serve as our primary resource for universal screening at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that helps us determine your wolf's strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your wolf where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction, especially through the rich resources available in the teacher toolbox lessons.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your wolf a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning through targeted instruction. With a year of i-Ready data already collected, our wolves will begin their fall diagnostic assessments at the level in which they completed their previous year diagnostic. This aims to save some time in the diagnostic process finding the exact instructional level of each wolf. Those who haven’t previously tested in GCISD will begin at their assigned grade level.
i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. These lessons are interactive and provide strategic support to keep your wolf engaged as they learn. In addition to My Path lessons, our teachers are utilizing the comprehensive teacher toolbox lessons to personalize instruction even further, addressing specific wolf needs identified by the diagnostic.
We encourage you to watch this video to better understand i-Ready: https://videos.curriculumassociates.com/watch/LRc9k59Ptg9pq9SBBmM6iz. We will continue to share information with you regarding student progress results and how you can also be a valued partner in your wolf's learning.
Thank you for your continued support of our campus. We look forward to a successful 2025-2026 school year!

Drop Off & Dismissal
Drop-off and pick-up occur in TWO locations: In the parking lot outside the academic halls at the B-hall door and outside the SAC. Thank you for waiting in carline and letting your wolf exit. It takes a few minutes to drop off and pick up over 800 wolves!
For the safety of all wolves, thank you in advance for driving slowly, keeping cell phones away, and staying alert and aware of others.
B-Hall Door
For drop-off and pick-up, the parking lot across from the football field is two lanes. Pull into the lane you will be exiting from, if you are turning right out of the parking lot, drop off and/or pick up your wolf in the inside lane (closest to the building) and if you are turning left out of the parking lot, drop off and/or pick up your wolf on the outside lane (closest to the football field). Also, please pull all the way up to let your wolf out of the vehicle. The doors to the school open at 7:45 a.m. and school dismisses at 3:35 p.m.
SAC Doors
This is a single lane drop-off and pick-up. The driveway is not for parking. If you need to assist your wolf, please park in a non-reserved space.
Personal Technology at School
House Bill 1481 prohibits the use of personal communication devices during the school day. Middle school students may use telecommunications devices before and after school. They may not use telecommunications devices during school hours except for their school issued devices.
What does this mean for the wolves?
- Personal devices will be in bags, not on wolves, throughout the entire school day.
- Families needing to relay messages can leave messages with the front office staff and office aides will deliver messages to classrooms.
- Wolves needing to contact families can use the phone in the front office during passing periods and lunch or, when appropriate, in their classrooms.
Technology Checks
Each year, GCISD technology staff see an influx of devices that need repair during the first several weeks of school. This can lead to students missing valuable time in class in which their device is needed. To ensure students start off next year in the best possible way, please complete the following simple steps.
Who: All wolves
What: Complete the following steps to ensure your device is working properly
Locate your device charger and ensure it is working properly
Power on your device
Ensure your screen and keyboard are working properly (Make sure all the keys are working properly)
If anything is not working:
- Submit a HelpDesk Ticket for the most efficient service we will be using the locker system outside of the administration building. More directions will be available in the helpdesk ticket
- Email technology@gcisd.net for assistance
Charger: In need of a new charger for a school issued Chromebook, click here for information on how to order a new one.
