Dates to Remember

November 9: AP Registration Deadline (students should complete the AP Registration form posted in Google Classroom)

November 9: Start of new schedule

November 25: End of Quarter 1

Progress Reports...Now What?

Progress reports are now available. This is a great time for students to reflect on the first several weeks of classes and consider their goals for the remainder of the quarter. We encourage students to think about what has been working well for them and what additional supports they may need. It may be helpful to consider the following:

  • Attendance/Absences: Have you been absent or tardy from class? If so, how can you improve your attendance? Remember, absences impact a student’s credits.
  • Preparation/Participation: Have you been prepared for class every day? If not, why? How can you improve this? Are you participating in Zoom meetings?
  • Assignments: Have you been completing assignments on time? How did you keep track of your work? Did it work?

We are looking forward to supporting students as they work towards their academic goals!

Each year, Watertown High School 10th graders have had the opportunity to participate in the annual Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. This weekend-long seminar provides participants with opportunities to develop and improve their leadership skills, hear from community and business leaders, and partner with students from around the state on group service projects. This year the event will be held virtually on May 1 & 2, 2021. The registration fee is $225 and registration is limited to seven 10th graders. If 10th graders are interested, they should contact their school guidance counselor to learn more about the nomination process. More information about the state leadership seminars can be found here.

Koplik and Adams Scholarships

Taking the MCAS in 9th and 10th grade is more than just a graduation requirement. It is also an opportunity for students to qualify for two awards that provide a tuition credit at the state universities (all community colleges, state universities, and schools in the UMass system). It is important for students and families to be aware of these awards and what they need to do to use them.

The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is awarded to students who meet particular score benchmarks on the three MCAS tests (ELA, Math, and Science) and have a combined score that places them in the top 25% of students in the district. Qualified 12th graders were notified by letter in October. In order to use the award, students must present the letter to the financial aid office at the school they plan to attend. Students must also complete the FAFSA. More information on this award can be found here.

The Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery with Distinction is awarded to students who meet particular score benchmarks on the three MCAS tests (ELA, Math, and Science) and complete additional requirements as outlined in the application. Students seeking this award must complete the application and the additional requirements to receive the award. These additional requirements could include taking AP exams or SAT Subject Tests. Students must also submit an application to the Koplik coordinator, Ms. Eaton, by May of their senior year and submit a copy of the qualification letter to the financial aid office at the school they plan to attend in order to use the award. Eligible 12th graders were notified by mail in October. For more information on this award, click here.

Students in the class of 2022 will have opportunities this year to earn these awards. Information on eligible scores can be found at the links above.
