Hubbard Woods Family Newsletter
April 7, 2025
This past week, we held our school-wide Safety and Belonging Assembly. During the assembly, I reviewed important safety procedures with students and staff using the Standard Response Protocol from the "I Love U Guys" Foundation.
To further support student understanding, our Director of Safety and Security, Ray Finnerty, visited each classroom throughout the week. He answered student questions in an age-appropriate manner and provided an opportunity for students to get to know him.
In addition to practicing how we stay safe, I also had the opportunity to talk with students about what it means to belong at Hubbard Woods. Students shared ways to ensure every classmate feels included, valued, and like an integral part of our school community.
In the spirit of belonging, we are also recognizing National Autism Acceptance Month throughout April. Marion Greenwood, our school social worker, has helped highlight this important time to celebrate and embrace neurodiversity.
To help foster greater understanding, Marion has shared a list of read-aloud books that celebrate the strengths and uniqueness of neurodiverse individuals. These stories are a wonderful way to spark meaningful conversations, both at school and at home.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a community so that everyone feels safe, seen, supported, and a true sense of belonging.
All the best,
Ivory Ajavon
Principal
Landscaping Update
We look forward to having the landscape finally completed (including sod and plantings) this spring near our new playground area. As was communicated in the fall, delays relating to the playground equipment and materials delayed this portion of the project. Due to the winter season and recent rainy conditions, the District has been advised that landscaping will most likely occur sometime in May. We appreciate your patience as Hubbard Woods has undergone both interior and exterior construction and will keep you apprised on any changes to this timeline. We very much look forward to the completion of this project!
The Winnetka Public Schools Call For School Board Applications
Due to a resignation announced at our March 2025 School Board meeting, we currently have an open seat on the Board that is to be seated this month to fulfill the final two years of that term. Per Board policy 2:70, the remaining term was less than 868 days, and the resignation was less than 88 days until the next election (April 1, 2025); therefore, the Board shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the open term.
The Board will be accepting applications from community members seeking to fill the open role through April 10th at 5 p.m. Qualifications to seek a Board seat are noted in Board Policy 2:40. The application can be found here.
After the application window closes, the Board will select candidates to interview in a closed session on either April 17th from 6:00-8:30 p.m. or April 18th from 8:00-10:30 a.m. Selected candidates may choose to meet with the Board in person or via Zoom.
The Board will discuss the final candidates and select a new Board member in time to be sworn in at the organizational meeting of the Board on April 22, 2025.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Board President, Dan Waters at danwaters@winnetka36.org.
