Inclement Weather E-Day
January 26, 2026
Dear Eagle Families
As Dr. Coffman shared, we are engaging in an e-day for Monday, 1-26-26. No doubt, this throws a wrinkle in many schedules and plans.
Recognizing you are already getting a series of messages, I've included an overview of eDay information for your reference.
Your child's teacher is your primary contact today to get your child started on their eDay school for today. The work for the day should still allow plenty of time to play in the snow.
E-Learning Day on Monday, January 26, 2026
Being our first weather related eDay, many of you might not be familiar with the terms and structure. In relationship to E-Learning Days, the term "asynchronous" simply means that your child's instruction will not be live and in real-time. ln asynchronous learning, your child's lessons are in a module format that is accessed through Canvas, our learning management system (same as the eday in November for conferences). Your child/family can pace through the lessons as needed. You should receive communication from your child's teacher with necessary information to get everyone started.
Our staff is working quickly and creatively to prepare for your child(ren)'s eDay scheduled for today. With our edays, please note the following additional details:
Access to eDay Lessons from your child's teacher:
- Canvas - Most students are very familiar with accessing and using Canvas, our LMS (learning management system). Teachers will provide guidance as needed and are able to respond to your inquiries throughout the day. As a staff, we are working throughout the school day and are available to respond to your communications. Please don't hesitate to reach out.
- As a district, all Canvas modules for eDays will be accessible no later than 9:00 AM.
Attendance for each day of school will be tracked based on completion of the eDay. In other words, students are counted "present" for the day once assignments are completed. Otherwise, it does count as an absence from school. Students have up to one week to complete the assigned work required for attendance.
Trouble with Working Online?
- If you have trouble with accessing the content that your child's teacher has uploaded, please email him or her. They should be available to respond throughout the day. Please note that they will be supporting students and families throughout the classroom and conducting meetings, etc... Staff members will respond as soon as they are able.
- If you have trouble with Canvas working properly for you, please scroll down to the bottom left corner of the Canvas page and click the HELP button (a question mark in the middle of a circle (?). Once you have done so, please complete a "help ticket" and describe your problem. Please be as detailed as possible, so that the tech department can assist you efficiently.
- Also note that Canvas will be used more heavily than typical. It is very possible that it may get bogged down at times. If this happens, take a break and try again later. If that doesn't work, complete a work order ticket as well.
I hope you are able to stay warm and I hope you can get out and play in the snow a bit!
In this together,
Andrew
Dr. Coffman's Message - from January 25, 2026
Good afternoon, ZCS Nation-
Zionsville Community Schools will operate on an E-day for Monday, January 26th. Additional communications from teachers can be expected by 9AM tomorrow morning as students will utilize Canvas to access and complete assignments. E-day assignments completed for 1/26/26 will allow ZCS to complete the 25-26 school year in May as planned, rather than extending the school year into June.
As our facilities team continues to address the large volume of snow with this storm, ZCS campuses remain closed. This means typical morning practices at the pool and other scheduled workouts for Monday morning are canceled. There will be no Eagle Rec offerings or Universal Preschool sessions. Additionally, due to the travel restrictions in place for Boone County and the projected wind chill, Before/After care programming will not be available on Monday, January 26th.
Updates about evening events/practices/performances scheduled to take place on our campuses Monday afternoon will be communicated by 3PM on Monday.
Thank you!
Rebecca Coffman
ZCS Superintendent
