Heights Happenings
Eastern Heights Elementary School, September 2026
Hello Eastern Heights Families,
Welcome to Fall! The weather still feels like summer, doesn't it? It has been an absolute joy watching our students come through the doors each morning with bright smiles, eager to learn.
All our students are practicing the 3 Be Rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Ready to Learn. In classrooms, hallways and the cafeteria we are talking with students about what this looks like in action—whether that means helping a friend on the playground or trying again when a math problem gets tough.
September is Attendance Awareness Month! We are celebrating with weekly Friday Spirit Days. See more information below. Ensuring your child arrives on time every day is the best way to support their learning. Thank you for partnering with us to build strong daily habits.
While conferences are not until October, we want you to be aware of the dates. Check out the "Planning Ahead" section of the monthly calendar below.
We truly value your partnership in making Eastern Heights Elementary a nurturing and exciting place to learn. If you have any questions or feedback, please reach out to us in the main office at 440-284-8011.

The Power of Words: How to Talk to You Students About Kind and Unkind Words
Hello Families!
We have been learning as a school community about the impact that our words have on others. It is important that we learn to "stop and think" about our words so that the words that we choose make people feel safe, valued, and respected in the school environment. As families, you play an essential part in this learning!
What We Are Learning About Language:
- Kind Words: Language that builds connections with others- making them feel happy, loved and safe.
- Unkind Words: Hurtful phrases, name-calling, threats or hate speech that make the people at our school feel sad, excluded, or unsafe.
- Reasons: We have discussed how often we use kind words when we are happy and it becomes easier to use unkind words when we are feeling angry, upset, or silly. It is important to understand the reasons why we might use unkind words so we can teach our brains to stop and choose different words instead.
How You Can Help at Home:
- Ask Questions: Ask your child about what kind words mean to them and what kindness they spread to others during their day.
- Explore the Reason: When your child uses unkind words at home, talk to them about how they are feeling and help them find other ways to express themselves.
- Practice the Pause: Encourage your child to "stop and think" before speaking by asking themselves things like "Is this helpful?" "How am I feeling?" "Is this kind?" and if not, "What can I say instead?"
Working together to express this message at both home and school ensures that children understand boundaries, accountability, and empathy and helps to make our school a wonderful place to be!

Attendance Update
September is School Attendance Awareness Month
We're celebrating with Spirit Fridays!
Every day of school is a big day for learning and growth.
When your child is in the classroom every day, they build strong learning habits, stay caught up with instruction and assignments, and develop lasting friendships. Missing even just two days a month can make it harder for children to learn how to read and do math.
We know that illnesses and family emergencies happen. However, let’s work together to make school a daily priority. Please make sure your child arrives on time every morning, and try to schedule doctor appointments after school hours whenever possible.
Thank you for partnering with us to help you child Stay In The Game!
