Open Houses
Below you will see the schedule for our remaining grade level open house events. Families attending will gather in the front of the school and at the right time will head up to classrooms. We hope to see you there!
Our many Specialists are not able to join our Open House events as they are teaching during that time; please get to know them, here:

From Our Librarian: Summer Reading Logs are Due!
Dear Hayes Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful summer full of great books! As we settle back into the school year, we'd love to celebrate all the reading your students did over break.
Please send in any evidence of summer reading — reading logs, lists of books read, or anything similar — by October 2nd. You can send these in with your child to give to their teacher or drop them off at the library.
Every student who submits evidence of summer reading will receive a small prize, and will also be entered into a drawing for a gift card to Brookline Booksmith!
We can't wait to hear about all the wonderful books our students discovered this summer. Thank you for supporting your child's reading all year long.
Warmly,
Lindsay Anderson
Librarian

Calling 8th Grade Parents!
Dear 8th Grade families,
After graduation, 8th grade students typically get together for a class student-only party. The evening is organized by 8th grade parents, and planning starts early. Are any parents interested in taking on the role? If so, please email contact@hayespto.org to see how the PTO can help.
Also, 8th grade does not yet have Room Parents - are there 1-2 volunteers who can take on the role? Email contact@hayespto.org - thank you!!

Brookline Day, This Sunday, CANCELLED!
Due to this weekend’s impending Nor’easter with high winds and consistent rain, Brookline Recreation made the difficult decision to cancel Brookline Day this Sunday, September 27.
In Closing
I want to let you all know that I will be out of the office from October 2nd through the 11th. I have been selected to join a group of educators to visit schools in both Finland and Estonia. If you need anything, the team here is well positioned to help.
I will be presenting about my trip during the October 16th PTO meeting here at school. I hope to see many of you there!
~ Asa
Our Land Acknowledgement
This parcel of land that our school sits upon is a special and sacred place.
Before this place was a Town, before our school was here, before this neighborhood was called “The Settlement” or “Chestnut Hill,” and before this land was a farm, this land was held by the Massachusett, the people Indigenous to this place. The Massachusett were the caretakers of this site, living full lives, raising families, and burying their dead right here. We recognize and honor this history, and seek to create thoughtful land stewards and citizens for generations to come.
As a public school, our primary objective is to ensure access, membership, and participation of all community members in our care; with this land acknowledgment we state our willingness to work towards that vision where all feel a true and abiding sense of belonging.
