“The news you need, not the fluff” from Mrs. Malekovic

Good evening-

What a busy weekend for the Crusaders, but it sure was fun! We had three Crusaders running at state on Saturday, meet the team night for our junior high basketball teams and cheerleaders, and the Fall Fest today. A huge shoot out to all of our volunteers and people who made the event go smoothly. I don't want to start listing names in fear of leaving someone out but we are blessed with amazing families at NHCS!!

Go Crusaders!

Have a great week!

If you ever have any questions feel to reach out me at school 618-533-6910 or gmalekovic@nhcscrusaders.org.

Blessings,

Mrs. Malekovic

Fire Drills and Fire Safety Day- Rescheduled Due to Rain

Thursday, October 22nd: Fire Safety Day

We will have a fire drill and Patches for Pre-K through 2nd grades and The Smoke House for 3rd and 4th grades.

Intruder Training Drill- Wednesday, October 21st

On Wednesday, October 21st at 1pm, New Horizon Christian School students will participate in a lockdown training drill. Students will also watch an age appropriate video that walks through what to do if a situation occurs that these actions need to be taken.

This training drill is not intended to cause undue stress to participants but to ensure students and staff know what to do if an event occurs. In my opinion, the best part of this whole training is the conversations it opens up. I would also encourage you to have a followup conversation with your child(ren) as well. We realize some parents/guardians might be uncomfortable with this drill and conversation. While we strongly encourage all students and staff to participate, if you would prefer that your child/children NOT participate in this drill, please fill out the form that will be sent home tomorrow and return to school by Tuesday, October 20th. If nothing is returned, permission is granted to take part in the drill. We will arrange for those children to be supervised elsewhere in the building during the drill. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Calendar Fund Raiser----Our ONE and ONLY NHCS Fundraiser.....Cash prizes of $1000, $750, and $500....every dollar spent is an entry into the drawing

..

Fundraiser Information....

NHCS Calendar Fundraiser!

This is our one and only fundraiser this year! That is… if EVERYONE does their part!

The calendar fundraiser has been successful for the past three years. It is extremely easy compared to previous events that take a lot of time and resources to produce less profit. This one easy fundraiser can provide for all our school’s needs as well as special projects that need funding. We are asking every family to do their very best to make this year’s calendar fundraiser the most successful yet. Last year, we raised $32,488 !

Each family (not each student) will be responsible for “selling” 31 dates on an October calendar. This will total $496!

Additional calendars are available in the office if you’d like to complete more than one.

The date is the donation amount and the number of entries in the drawing.

October 1st = $1 & 1 Entry October 2nd = $2 & 2 Entries And so on until October 31st = $31 & 31 Entries

Each family will be given a paper calendar to be completed and returned, however, the easiest way to reach supporters is through social media. A sample post is on the PTF Facebook page and schoolwide dojo. Copy and paste it or tweak it and add personal information and post on your own social media pages or send to friends through private messages. (A personal ask is most effective) You can collect donations any way that is convenient for you.You can personally collect donations by PayPal or Venmo! But all funds raised must be turned into the office by cash or check. Please make checks payable to NHCS PTF.

Write your supporters name and phone number on that date and collect their donation.

Supporters may purchase more than one date on a calendar and/or on multiple students’ calendars. Don’t forget your own donation!

If you want to purchase your family’s entire calendar... $496 buys it and poof… you’re done!

A drawing will be held on November 5th!

Cash Prizes - $1000 $750 $500

The deadline to return calendars and money is Thursday, October 29th, 2026.

(see the back for all that PTF does for NHCS)

The 2026-2027 Theme: The Lord, The Lord: Compassionate, Gracious, Slow to Anger, Abounding in Love and Faithfulness
zoom_out_map Show in original size

2026-2027 Theme: The Lord, The Lord: compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

We will spend the year focusing on the verse Exodus 34:6. The second quarter we are focusing on The Lord is Gracious.

What does gracious mean?

Gracious means showing kindness, love, and forgiveness to others, even when they make mistakes or haven't earned it.

God shows us grace by loving us, forgiving us, and giving us opportunities to grow even when we fall short.

Because God shows us grace, we should show grace to others!

What does showing grace look like?

  • Forgive others instead of getting even.

  • Be kind even when someone is unkind to you.

  • Give second chances when someone makes a mistake.

  • Be patient when someone frustrates you.

  • Include others who are left out.

  • Encourage others instead of making fun of them.

  • Help others without expecting anything in return.

  • Speak kindly even when you disagree.

Remember!

Grace is giving kindness and forgiveness, even when they aren't earned.
