The Steads Are Coming To Hornung!
Hornung Families,
We’re thrilled to welcome Philip and Erin Stead, the award-winning duo behind A Sick Day for Amos McGee and A Snow Day for Amos McGee, to Hornung on Tuesday, December 9th! We owe a huge thank you to 2 Dandelions Bookshop for bringing this amazing author visit to Hornung!
Students can order books through 2 Dandelions Bookshop and have them signed during the visit.
Ordering is easy:
Pay by card online: www.2dandelionsbookshop.com/stead
Pay with cash or check: print the form here tinyurl.com/bookorderformsteads then have your student return it to their teacher.
ALL orders are due by November 21st. Books will be delivered to school and sent home after the event.
Bonus for parents: The Steads will also be at 2 Dandelions on Saturday, Dec. 6th at 11:00am. A great chance to meet them yourself and support our wonderful local bookshop.
We can’t wait for this special visit!

Just in case clothes JK-4th Grade
Parents please pack an extra set of weather appropriate clothes in your child's backpack each day. Bathroom accidents, spills, mud puddles or unexpected messes can happen, and having a spare outfit will help keep your child comfortable throughout the day. This way, we can take care of any changes at school, and you won't have to make a trip to bring them. Thank you for your support!
Reporting Absences in Parent Connect
Parent Connect has a quick and easy way to report your child's absence.
- Log into Parent Connect
- If you have more than one child, select the student who will be absent.
- Click Report Absence on the top right corner.
- Enter the date(s) of the absence.
- If your child will be gone all day, check the All Day box so it applies to both morning and afternoon. Or, if your child will only miss part of the day, enter the specific times.
- Finally select a Reason and make sure to include in the Notes why your child will be absent (illness, doctor visit, vacation etc.) If your child has been diagnosed with something specific (like COVID, strep throat, pink eye, flu, chickenpox, etc.), please mention that in Notes.
Reporting Absences on the Attendance Line
Another option for reporting an absence is to call the Hornung attendance line at 810-299-4454. When you leave a message, please include:
- Your child's name
- Their teacher's name
- The date(s) they'll be absent
- The reason (illness, doctor visit, vacation, etc.)
If they haven't been diagnosed but do have symptoms, let us know what those symptoms are.
