6th Graders Welcomed into Upper School
Last evening, our 6th grade scholars were officially welcomed into the Upper School House system during an eventful induction ceremony rooted in SJCA tradition. Scholars were proudly placed into Athens, Corinth, Delphi, and Sparta, marking an exciting step in their journey as members of the upper school community. As new house members, they will represent their houses in the upcoming Spring House Olympics and take part in the camaraderie and school spirit that defines the house experience.
FSA State Assessment and Advanced Placement Exam Dates
Please ensure that your child arrives to school on time and is present for their PM3 testing dates. It is important for them to have a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. We want our scholars to do their best and avoid make up testing as much as possible. Thank you!
Archery Day in Upper School
Our Physical Education Department invited the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to lead an archery course for our upper school PE classes, which enhanced the overall physical education experience by introducing scholars to a lifetime sport that builds focus, discipline, and hand-eye coordination. This hands-on instruction not only exposed scholars to outdoor recreation opportunities, but also promoted safety awareness and responsible equipment use.

Virtue of the Month - April is Citizenship
Literature and fairy tales awaken the moral imagination and help scholars see virtue lived out in characters they come to love. Reading literature aloud to scholars is something we practice at every age here at SJCA. To explore more stories at home that align with our monthly virtues, visit corevirtues.hillsdale.edu or take a look at our recommendations here.
Mrs. Hancock's Class STEM Science Activity
Mrs. Hancock's fourth-grade scholars participated in a hands-on STEM science activity where they became scientists and animal designers! During this experiment, students created their own unique animal and carefully designed adaptations that would help their creature survive in a specific environment.
First, scholars selected an environment for their animal to live in, such as the desert, ocean, rainforest, tundra, or grasslands. Once they chose the habitat, they had to think like scientists and determine what types of adaptations would help their animal survive there.
Scholars then designed their animal and chose several structural adaptations, such as:
body coverings (fur, scales, feathers)
special limbs or wings
teeth or beaks
camouflage coloring
protective features like shells or spikes
They also considered behavioral adaptations, such as:
hunting at night
living in groups
burrowing underground
migrating for food or warmth.
Each scholar drew and labeled their animal and explained how its adaptations would help it find food, stay safe from predators, and survive in its environment.
This activity helped reinforce our science focus on the structure and function of plants and animals and how living things are specially designed to survive in their habitats. The scholars did an incredible job thinking critically and creatively while applying the scientific concepts we have been learning.
It was wonderful to see their creativity come alive as they imagined animals with wings, camouflage, special claws, and other fascinating survival traits!
I am so proud of their hard work and scientific thinking. π§¬πΎ
