"Win the Day" - 2022-2023 Nohl Canyon Vision

For the 2022-2023 school year, Nohl Canyons vision for staff, students, and families is "Win the Day".

"Win the Day" calls for each Nohl Canyon Community member to put forth their best individual effort each day, accomplish pre-set goals, and be the best PERSON they can be by following the Kaizen montra - "Continuous Improvement".

On Thursday, NC students participated in our "Win the Day" Expectation Assembly. Please view the Win the Day Expectation Assembly Presentation

Students were challenged with completing 1 small goal on Friday morning.. To make their Bed! How many accomplished it and were able to say they "Won the day"?!

Motivation video on why we make our bed in the morning: VIDEO (Thank you to Mrs. Velez for sharing)

Orange Unified Public School Foundation (OUPSF)

Orange Unified Public School Foundation (OUPSF) is a group of parents, educators, and community leaders whose mission is to mobilize the community to provide equitable opportunities for all of our students to learn creatively, think innovatively, and collaborate effectively. They are dedicated to bolstering Orange Unified School District as one of the top school districts in Orange County by augmenting the resources that enrich OUSD students’ school experience and equip them to succeed in their education, career, and life. Please see the video message from OUPSF President Frank Tucker who reviews the OUPSF’s goals. For more information, please visit https://www.oupsf.org/ or visit their table at your school’s Back to School Night.

Students Right to a Free Education

Section 5 of Article IX of the State of California Constitution guarantees students a “free public education.” The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell, “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extra-curricular as well as curricula, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities.” This same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State Constitution.” Furthermore, they also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged so long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay.” Recent proposed legislation includes reimbursement with interest for any illegally-collected fees as well as a district sanction.
