What's Happening at Woodside? What's Happening at Woodside?

Woodside's Got Talent!

Thursday evening some talented Cougars shared their gifts at the annual Woodside's Got Talent show! This year, there was an added Art Wall that presented Middle School Art Elective pieces and an additional presentation for the school on Friday morning. We love seeing our students come together in celebration of the Arts! Thank you to our Middle School Tech Crew, Mrs. Holverstott, and Ms. Victor for making this happen!

Coming This Week at Woodside... Coming This Week at Woodside...

Moving into the home stretch of the school year. Many students will be completing the Spring iReady Diagnostic assessment in reading and math. This assessment helps students understand their progress and growth for the school year, while also helping staff to structure instructional supports for the incoming year.

We look forward to celebrating successes into Citizenship, Academics, and Attendance at our elementary assemblies coming up this Friday, May 23. First and Fifth grade will be on a field trip, so will have their own celebrations later in the year.

Middle School students will be able to learn about Bully Prevention, Tobacco Prevention, and Substance Use Prevention during their lunch times on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This opportunity is being brought to us by San Juan Unified SAFE Schools personnel.

What is Design Thinking?

At Woodside, we’re excited to use design thinking in our classrooms! Design thinking is a creative problem-solving process that helps students learn to empathize with others, think outside the box, and take action. Instead of looking for just one right answer, students are encouraged to ask questions, try out ideas, learn from mistakes, and keep improving.

You might hear your child talking about “prototyping” or asking “How might we...?” questions—these are signs they’re learning to solve real problems in meaningful ways.

Design thinking helps build confidence, creativity, and collaboration—and most importantly, it empowers students to make a positive impact on their classroom and community.

If you have any questions related to our school innovations, please reach out to Ms. Victor at dvictor@sanjuan.edu.

ELD Update ELD Update

ELD Update:

ELPAC scores are becoming available and the 3-8th grade students have been able to see their improvement! Congratulations to Sebastian Marquez Martin (8th grade) and Alondra Celio Bermudez (3rd grade) for passing their ELPAC test with a 4 and meeting the criteria for reclassification as English Language Proficient!

We have several other students who also received a 4 on their ELPAC and still need to complete their i-Ready diagnostic with a passing score to reclassify before the end of the school year. They will be working on their i-Ready path to prepare for the upcoming diagnostic. Come on, Gracie, Nikita, Mehruma, and Iuliia! You've got this!

LatinX Club Update:

We went over the survey results from a survey that club members across the district took this spring to give feedback on the benefits of participating in clubs. We discussed what we enjoyed this year and what we envision for the club next year.

Next meeting, a representative from the Multicultural Department will come and conduct a Listening Session with our club members to hear their thoughts and ideas.
