District Dialogue
Keeping you informed the week of April 3-7, 2023
SD Week of Work
Welcome to the official start of the Week of Work here in South Dakota! April 3-7, middle and high school students across the state are exposed to their future career opportunities through job shadowing, industry tours and other business-classroom connections. Week of Work is an initiative that was created a few years ago with the goal of guiding students, engaging local businesses and bolstering the future workforce.
Keep an eye out on SFSD social media throughout the week to see how we're highlighting the amazing work our school counselors are doing (year round!) to help our students think about their next steps after high school.
If your students are participating in career related events or activities you can highlight them on social media with #SDWeekofWork.
April PBIS Updates
Carbs for Kids Fun Run 5k!
The Carbs for Kids 5k & Bake Sale is meant to support the kids and youth in our community.
Kiwanis is a community of members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children in Sioux Falls. Every child has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children and youth such as fighting hunger, improving literacy, and offering guidance.
Come support a great cause and start your weekend off right with a fresh baked goodie!
All funds raised from the race and bake sale stay local.
New Staff Portal
With the help from Human Resources and Staff Development we are excited to launch the new Staff Portal! This site replaces some of the current InSite pages and will be your one-stop-shop for everything employment related. You can access this site from the district website using any of the links under the “Staff” tab or feel free to bookmark this URL:
https://siouxfallssd.sites.thrillshare.com/o/careers
We have been listening to your requests and will continue to build and improve on this site. Stop back often to read new stories and find awesome events that showcase all the District has to offer!
InSite will still exist for any secure information. You will see the link in the “Quick Hit Bar” at the top to help direct you to the InSite log-in page. We look forward to seeing this site grow into a helpful tool for all our current and future employees.
Library Advisory Committee
The Library Advisory Committee will serve as an advocate for the library program. The committee will help determine policies and procedures to guide library services as changing technology impacts available services. When a request for reconsideration of library materials arises, the committee will review the materials and make a recommendation to the superintendent regarding the continued use of the materials.
The SFSD is forming a Library Advisory Committee, and we are looking for members to fill the following roles: Classroom Teacher, Librarian, Parent, Administration.

Ramadan 2023
Some things for school faculty/staff to consider
This Islamic holy month can have a big impact on our Muslim students. Please read these helpful tips and important reminders to support our students who are observing Ramadan.
- Ramadan is the muslim month of fasting. Practicing muslim students will be fasting from dawn-dusk (6 AM to 8 PM).
- Fasting means NO FOOD and NO WATER.
- Ramadan celebrations often involve prayers late into the night.
- It is not unusual to be up past midnight for prayers and then get up around 5 am to eat before dawn and pray.
- Ramadan 2023 will last approximately from March 22 - April 21. Ramadan is scheduled on the lunar calendar so it moves dates each year.
Muslim students may be tired, hungry and dehydrated in your classes - especially if they are with you late in the afternoon.
Staff Recognition
The SFSD would like to recognize any employee that has achieved an advanced degree or certification during the 2022-2023 school year.
