Junior High Open House – An Exciting Step for Grade 6 Families!
The transition to junior high is an exciting milestone, and we are thrilled to invite all parents and guardians of our Grade 6 students to our Junior High Open House evening on February 4th! This evening is a fantastic opportunity to step inside the school, meet the junior high staff, and explore the wide range of engaging programs and learning opportunities available to students as they begin this next chapter.
Lakeland Ridge School
📅 February 4
⏰ 5:30–6:30 p.m.
In past years, we have hosted a Junior High Information Night in the spring. This year, the Open Houses will take its place, allowing families to connect earlier and feel confident about the transition ahead. To further support students, Lakeland Ridge will also host a Grade 7 / New Student Orientation in August, just before the school year begins.
We encourage all Grade 6 families to attend and start imagining the exciting journey that awaits in junior high—we look forward to welcoming you!
Jr. High Option Changes for Semester 2
Junior High students will have the opportunity to request changes to their Semester Two option courses after the completion of a 6-day cycle. Option change request forms will be available for student pickup in the office starting February 4, and completed forms must be returned by February 10.
All option change request forms must be signed by a parent or guardian in order to be considered. Please note that option changes are not guaranteed and will only be approved if space is available in the requested course.

Sherwood Park Next Step Open House on Thursday, January 27 @ 6pm
Looking for an alternative to traditional educations? Check us out! Next Step offers students in grades 10-12 a flexible, supportive, and personalized approach to learning. Providing individualized programming that meets students where they are, so they can progress at a pace that works best for them. Whether students are upgrading, pursuing a diploma, transitioning back into school or balancing learning with work or personal commitments, Next Step ensures every learner has a pathway to success. All programming is in-person, with students required to be on campus only twice per week (or more if preferred). All assessments are completed in-person, and course materials are available 24/7 via Brightspace or Google Classroom.
Inclement Weather
With the winter season almost here, the school has a few reminders for families:
· Ensure students have clothing appropriate for expected weather conditions.
· If weather conditions are bad enough to impact student transportation, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) advises families directly, and posts updates on social media and eips.ca. · Decisions regarding bus cancellations are guided by an EIPS administrative procedure that states, “school bus service may be suspended…when there is a forecast or current temperature of -40 C, including wind chill factor, in one or more regions.” Other reasons for suspending or delaying school bus services include adverse weather and poor road conditions.
· When school bus services are suspended, schools remain open to students.
For more information, contact EIPS Student Transportation at 780-417-8151.
Contact Information
Has your contact information recently changed? Have you recently moved or has your contact information changed since the start of the year?
Lakeland Ridge encourages families to review the information the Division has on file to ensure it’s up to date. Using the Student Information Update available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal, families can review the current information on file for each student—including addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, parent and guardian information, emergency contacts, medical details and other related information—and submit any updates needed.
Reviewing and updating the form ensures the school and Division have the most up-to-date information regarding your child. Updates completed by December 10 are especially helpful as the Division prepares for 2026-27 registration processes beginning in the new year.
NOTE: Only submit updates for the changes that have already taken place. If you’re moving later this school year, you’ll submit the necessary updates to your information through the Student Information Update after you’ve moved.
If you have questions about the form or any trouble with your Parent Portal account, contact the school office at 780-416-9018.
Parking Lot Pick Up and Drop Off
Safety Concern - Parents, please read!
When dropping off and picking up students, please ensure you are not parking in bus zones, staff parking spaces, or entering the staff parking lot at any time, even for a quick stop. We have noticed an increase in vehicles lining up and blocking staff parking stalls for end of day pick up. This makes it difficult for staff to leave the school because their stalls are either blocked or they are concerned about backing out and hitting someone. Staff parking spaces have all been allocated for the staff from Lakeland Ridge, Holy Spirit and EIPS Supports for Students. All staff parking spots are in use, however, you may see some open spots because staff from all 3 organizations arrive and depart at various times of the day. Please do not park in an empty staff parking space or enter the staff parking lot. The map below outlines where you are permitted to pull in to pick up and drop off your children. (Turquoise area ONLY.) Whenever in doubt, STAY TO THE RIGHT!
Nature Wanderers Childcare
This year, Lakeland Ridge is hosting a private childcare company, called Nature Wanderers Childcare. They will offer childcare for Kindergarten age students on off days as well as before and after school care for students up to age 12.
For any inquiries please reach out to Nature Wanderers directly.
