The Lion's RoarNews from Morrill Elementary School - September Edition

A Note from the Principal

Dear Morrill Elementary Families and Friends,

We have had such an awesome start to our school year! Thank you for all of the ways you helped us to adjust to our school routine. We kicked off the year with a fun teacher reveal and have been engaging our students every day since. We have spent a lot of time over the past few weeks teaching expectations for learning and behavior in order to help all of us be respectful, responsible and safe. We hope you can take a minute to check out some of our recent events and as always, please don't hesitate to call or stop by if you have any concerns.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lackey

Run Lions Run!

This year we challenged our elementary students to get some exercise before school starts! Students check in from 7:30-7:45 am and then run our course. Miss Jessi has been keeping track of our miles each day and these kids have been so impressive! We had 58 kids earn a lanyard and a charm last Friday for hitting the 5 mile mark! We have had over 100 kids participate and complete over 540 miles as a school!

We had a lot of support from the High School Cross Country team who helped us learn the course and cheered us on the first week. Kids from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade have joined in the fun along with some parents and teachers. Stop by to watch, cheer, or join these hard-working kiddos! We are so proud of them!

Please check in at the elementary office before heading to the cafeteria. You can pay for the adult meal at the cafeteria. Thanks so much for taking time to join us for lunch!

Join the PTO!

The Morrill PTO is a huge support to our school, staff and students! Scan the QR code with your phone to join the PTO database for future events! If you would rather have a paper form, just ask your child's teacher or call the school office and we will be happy to send one home!

Check out the new Gaga Ball Pit purchased by the PTO! Thank you to the Frerichs family for helping with the installation. It is a huge hit for kids of all ages!

What Den are You In?

Four dens make up our Morrill Elementary Family...they are Superbia, Kiburi, Duma, and Fierte'. Each student and staff member in our school belongs to one of these groups. New students and staff members will be sorted into a den in the coming month. Our Kindergarten kids will also join a den later in the year, when they are a little more comfortable with being in a larger group, away from their teacher. 🙂

Den Day!

Once a month we will have a den day to get together with the students in our den. We wear our den color, meet up with our den buddies, and participate in fun activities. Once a quarter, all four dens will gather in the gym for some friendly competition and show off our den pride!

Our first den day was held recently and we had a great time! Follow our social media pages for updates as we share our den activities!

Erica Croft

Erica Croft is one of our amazing First Grade teachers. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas and Morrill. She has a daughter, Lily, and a son, William. She also has two dogs named Bex and Nova. Ms. Croft likes hiking, jogging, working out, and reading. One thing you may not know about Ms. Croft is that she loves organizing things! If she wasn't spending the day at school, she would enjoy a dream vacation on the beach!

Kristin Stauffer

Morrill Elementary is so fortunate to have Kristin Stauffer as our school secretary. Miss Kristin grew up in the Mitchell Valley area. She and her husband, Billy, have two daughters, Kilee and Kiera. They also have an adorable puppy named Ziggy that keeps them busy! Miss Kristin's go-to snack is Hot Tamales or Mini-Starburst. She doesn't think she has any hidden talents, but we all know that she is glue that holds our school together!

Lauren Armstrong

We are so glad that Lauren Armstrong found her way to Nebraska after growing up in Sarasota, Florida. She lives in Scottsbluff with her husband, Tyger, her daughter, Andi, a dog named Bean and two cats, Elby and Mr. Lou. Mrs. Armstrong enjoys going on road trips, thrift shopping, decorating spaces, and spending time with family. Her favorite thing about being our school counselor is the love, dedication and compassion she gets to witness daily.

Coming Up!

We work hard to stay connected and keep our families and friends aware of what is happening in our great school! We continue to send home paper notes, use Bloomz to connect to a school account and individual classroom accounts, as well as utilize several social media platforms.
