CES Weekly Communicator
Issue #7: September 19, 2025
Principal Corner
Good morning, Chapelfield families,
Start with Hello week was a success thanks to the many people that stopped by to say hi. A few of the highlights are Piggy & Gerald, Clifford, GLHS Football & Lacrosse team, First Responders, PTO board members, GJPS central office staff, Brutus, the Crew Cat, and GLHS' marching band.
We want to ensure that every child at Chapelfied feels like they belong. It starts with one hello.
Thank you families for meeting with your child's teacher at the first night of conferences. We have our next one on Thursday, September 25 from 3-7 p.m. Don't forget to sign up and make the home-school connection with your child's teacher. Those relationships are critical for the future success of your child in school!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller

School Counseling Connection with Mrs. Jasin
Hello Families!
Thank you for celebrating our THIRD annual Start with Hello Week with us!
The purpose was to raise awareness and educate students on ways to reduce social isolation and increase connectedness, ensuring all students feel a sense of belonging.
Students are taught three easy steps:
1. See someone alone
2. Reach out and help
3. Start with Hello
Best,
Mrs. Jasin

Art with Mrs. Karr
Welcome back Chapelfield artists! We started the year with a collaborative project where students in every grade made a monotone self portrait. Each grade level used one color and when placed together the portraits create a colorful rainbow. These are proudly displayed outside the art room so check them out the next time you’re in the building!
Moving into the first projects of the year, Kindergarten and 1st grade learned how to use centers in the art room. Centers are areas of focused learning. Students have artistic choice and voice as well as work in small groups closely with the teacher on larger projects. They’ve done a great job getting used to our expectations and routines!
Second graders are working on solving a Mystery Picture! When following the silly drawing prompts correctly, the end result is something surprising and beautiful. We will finish up this lesson with a tutorial on marker painting and a marker painting of their choice.
Third, fourth and fifth grade students were very excited to start their painting units! We begin with a color wheel and paint mixing review which increases with difficulty each year. Next, we’ll apply our knowledge to a painting project. Stay tuned to see what we create!
Stay in the Game Attendance Network
Dear Families,
Do your part in ensuring you get to school on time and ready to learn! If you haven't done so already, take the pledge!
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller and Jen Couch
Attendance Procedures
Pursuant to House Bill 410, student attendance is calculated in hours. This includes absences that have been identified as both excused and unexcused by the school, as well as planned absences. Being late or tardy to school does calculate into the total hours absent.
If your child is going to be absent for any portion of the school day, please notify the school. You may report an absence by using our Online Absence Reporting available in the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. To enter a request follow these simple steps:
1.Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.
2. Select your child’s profile.
3. Navigate to the Absence Request section.
4. Fill in the required information, including the date and reason for the absence.
5. Submit your request.
You will be able to view the status of your request using the View Requests button.
You may also call Chapelfield at 614-478-5575 or email our secretary at gilzows@gjps.org.
Medical excuses from a doctor can be submitted to Stephanie Gilzow, our school secretary, through email (gilzows@gjps.org) or sending in a paper copy.
Parent Phone calls to change transportation
The front office is a busy place the last 30 minutes of school. We ask that parents NOT CALL to make transportation changes after 2 p.m. Please make sure students know your plan of pick up before they come to school.
