Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday April 30, 2026
Good evening, Glenwood families,
What an exciting playoff season in Philadelphia! I hope you got some rest after the Flyers pulled that one out! Back at it tonight with our Sixers trying to keep the series alive! Make sure your children get to bed by halftime and get a great night’s sleep to have a productive Friday at school!
This last week of April has proven to be busy! I continue to be impressed by the effort of our 3-5 graders throughout the PSSA window. We are in our final stretch with only 5th grade participating in Science.
As you will see, the end of the year is busy, so please see the happenings below.
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal

Glenwood Happenings
Glenwood ART SHOW!
"Dive into creativity at our Annual Art Show on Monday, May 4th from 6:00–7:30! Explore a sea of student artwork and experience our special underwater glow gallery."
2nd Grade News
Second graders have been exploring the power of water in science! Students have discovered how canyons are made by creating models to explore the concept of erosion. They created their own barriers to stop erosion from happening on large mountains. They have also learned about landslides and flash floods.
Show us the money! Second graders are learning all about counting money in math! Students are practicing counting, making change, and showing values with the least coins possible.
Second graders are becoming poets! They are exploring elements of poetry such as rhyme, rhythm, onomatopoeia, and alliteration. They will use these skills in the following weeks to create poems of their own.
Celebrating Math Excellence!
Congratulations to our outstanding students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 for earning the top scores for Glenwood in the Continental Math League competition! Their hard work, perseverance, and strong problem‑solving skills truly shone through on this challenging mathematics contest. We are incredibly proud of their achievement and commend them for representing our school with excellence. Way to go, mathematicians!
It’s STEM/Makerspace Time in the Library!
All students will be exploring aspects of STEM in the library.
Kindergarten through Third will be exploring challenges using library provided materials.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Families ~ Students will need to find items at home to use for their projects. Please do not go out/online and buy things. The challenge for 4th & 5th grade is to be creative when looking for materials. Repurpose, reuse, create! I will provide a pizza box for all fourth graders. Fifth graders need shoe boxes!
Let’s get building!
Join the Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction
There were 171 cereal boxes collected this week! It’s a good start, but we need your help to reach our big goal of 1,400 boxes to support local shelters in our community. Every box makes a difference for families in need. You can send in cereal with your child or make it even easier by shipping directly to the school using our Amazon link. Let’s come together to spark a chain reaction of kindness and help knock down hunger like dominoes, one box at a time! (This is FULL, unopened boxes of cereal!)
Glenwood Book Swap
Are you doing a Spring Cleaning? Do you have lots of gently read children’s books that you no longer use? Consider donating them to Glenwood’s Book Swap! Students will be participating in a book swap later this year and we need books! Please send in any gently used elementary school appropriate books to Glenwood’s library! Volunteers will also be needed to help run the swap. Dates and more info to come soon!
Glenwood Spotlight
JUST LIKE THE CHARACTERS
Each week we will highlight anyone who has exemplified qualities similar to our Philly mascots, possessing the following:
GRITTY (Flyers Ice Hockey) Resilient with a ‘never give up’ attitude
FRANKLIN (76er's Basketball): Loyal friend
SWOOP (Eagles Football): Strong and determined
DETERMINED
Congratulations to our talented fifth grade team! In March, they proudly represented our school at the K’NEX Challenge hosted by the DCIU and earned the award for Best Presentation. Their success was the result of outstanding teamwork, creative problem‑solving, and thoughtful design. We are so proud of their hard work and the confidence they showed while sharing their ideas. PTG Updates
PTG Meeting
We are excited to announce that we are changing up the format of our PTG meetings to be more streamlined- with more interaction and less repetition focusing on new info since we already share a lot through the emails, newsletters and Facebook! We will be also allowing time at the end of the meeting for any questions, comments or suggestions and hope to make the format more relaxed for people to join the conversation if they would like.
In addition, PTG will be hosting a quick "get together" prior to the meeting from 6:40-7pm with light drinks and snacks. We are urging the Committee Chairs especially to attend in person as it would be nice for you to be available to chat about your position with new prospects if you are not returning next year. Below is the agenda for the PTG meeting Wednesday 5/13 at 7pm in the Glenwood Library. This meeting will be held via Zoom as well.
