Pathway to Transfer to 4 year Universities

Students can complete the first two years of general education requirements through a community college before transferring to a 4 year university to finish their major requirements. It's often a cost effective approach as community college tuition is a fraction of the cost, and students could qualify for programs that pay for first year of college free. The UC/CSU will prioritize transfer students over first time freshmen college students.

Community College Application Process

All students will be accepted into a community college as long as they complete the matriculation process.

Step 1:

  • Apply on community college website

Step 2:

  • Once college received your application, you will receive an email to open portal accounts

Step 3:

  • Follow matriculation steps assigned to you in your college portal account. This will include orientation, advisement, creating first semester plans, submitting transcripts, apply for financial aid, etc.

Step 4:

  • Once all matriculation steps are completed, you will be given a registration date to select your classes online

Loan vs Grant

What's a loan?

Money you borrow with the expectation that you will pay it back (with interest) within a deadline laid out by your lender.

Students can borrow money through the federal government when applying for FAFSA or private students loans through non-government entities like banks.

What's a grant?

Gift aid awarded to students often based on financial need. They typically come from the state government, federal government, non-profit organization, and universities.

Types of Federal Student Aid

Scholarships

Scholarships are money-based award specifically designated for education-related expenses. It is FREE money that you do not have to pay back. Qualification for scholarships depends on the individual scholarship program and awards can be based on merit, talent, or academic performance.

Seniors are encouraged to apply for scholarships throughout the year. It does take time, but that time can pay off in the end. Counselors email local local Tustin community scholarship opportunities often...so check your emails regularly.
