As a reminder, our first Late Start Day of the school year is this Wednesday, September 3rd. On Late Start Days, student hours are 10:00 am-2:15 pm.
Wishing everyone a great week ahead!
Your Partner in Education,
Ms. Nicole Bryan, Principal
Neubert Elementary School
Standard Response Protocol
As Superintendent Dr. Martina Smith shared in her summer communications, starting this year, our schools will be strengthening emergency response procedures by implementing the Standard Response Protocol and the Standard Reunification Method, both developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation.
The Standard Response Protocol outlines five clear actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. These actions are designed to help keep students and staff safe in a variety of situations, including medical events, severe weather, police activity near the school, and more.
In addition, District 300 is adopting the Standard Reunification Method to provide a safe and organized process for reuniting students with their families should an emergency occur.
To learn more about these safety enhancements, please review the Standard Response Protocol for the District 300 Community (PDF).

A safe, predictable, and positive school environment allows students to feel secure, respected, and ready to learn.

i-Ready Assessments
Our i-Ready assessment window will open on Monday, August 18th and close on Friday, September 5th. Students will take the i-Ready assessment in both reading and math.
Please see the information below for helpful tips and details about i-Ready testing. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re happy to help! If you are looking for specific dates your student will be taking their assessments, please reach out directly to their teacher. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students show what they know and reach their full potential.
What i-Ready Is and How It Works
Adaptive Assessment — i‑Ready adjusts question difficulty based on your student’s responses: correct answers lead to tougher questions, incorrect ones to easier ones. This helps pinpoint the right learning level—not to assign a “grade” but to personalize instruction.
💡 Tips to Help Your Child Do Their Best on the i-Ready Assessment
-
Get a good night’s sleep the night before testing so your child is well-rested and alert.
-
Eat a healthy breakfast to fuel focus and concentration.
-
Talk about the purpose — explain that i-Ready helps teachers know what they’ve learned and what they still need to work on.
-
Encourage a “try your best” mindset — it’s okay if they don’t know every answer; thoughtful effort matters most.
-
Remind them to take their time and read questions carefully.
-
Offer encouragement before and after the test — celebrate their hard work, not just their score.
Student Belonging Survey
Our Student Belonging Survey window will open on Monday, August 18th and close on Friday, September 5th.
Students in grades 3-5 will participate in an assessment to allow school leaders to gauge students’ sense of belonging at school. This is part of D300’s continuing effort to improve our understanding of our students' needs. Although our school values the voices and perspectives of our pre-K through 2nd-grade students, we do not feel that the reading level of the assessment suits the average literacy of our youngest students.
We recommend K-2 students work with their families (parents and guardians) to provide feedback through the 5 Essentials Survey when it is available. Unfortunately, the 5 Essentials places similar restrictions on K-2 student participation due to reading levels. However, since the 5 Essentials can be completed from home, students and families can discuss their experiences and complete the survey together.
Erin's Law presentations will begin the week of September 2nd at Neubert.
Erin's Law is a movement, originating with survivor Erin Merryn, that educates children about personal body safety and empowers them to recognize, report, and prevent child sexual abuse. The core message to families is to have ongoing, open conversations with their children about safe and unsafe touches, the right to say "no" to any unwanted touch, to identify trusted adults, and to understand that the responsibility for abuse always lies with the perpetrator, not the child.

Lost & Found
We already have 10 items in our Lost and Found, and we'd love to return them to their rightful owners! Please take a moment to view the picture of the current items and see if anything belongs to your child. Thank you for your help in getting these items back home!
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
As a reminder, there are many safety and medical concerns regarding having pets on the property of school, either inside or outside. For the safety of the children and your pet, animals are not permitted on school grounds.
Arrival and Dismissal Guidelines:
- Be your child’s best example.
- Please be courteous and follow safety guidelines at all times – do not use your cell phone while in the school zones.
- Follow all directions from school safety personnel. (Staff can see potential problems you may not.)
- Students are to be picked-up promptly at dismissal. There is no supervision after school hours.
- Please drive slowly and watch for children!
- School Parking Lots are closed during arrival from 7:45-8:05 and during dismissal from 2:10-2:30.
Music Concerts
Mark your calendars! 🎵 Our grade-level musical concert series will continue this school year, and we would love for you to join us. Come to one, come to some, come to all — every performance is a special celebration of our students’ hard work and talent! Thank you to our wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Ruzinok, for making the magic happen!
Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
At Neubert, we use a school-wide approach called MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) for Behavior, also known as PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), to help all students be successful socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.
Our Core Expectations:
Respect Yourself • Respect Others • Respect All Things • Respect Learning
Three Levels of Support:
-
Tier 1: School-wide expectations, lessons, and recognition for all students (e.g., Royal Gems, You’ve Been Crowned class rewards).
-
Tier 2: Targeted small-group supports for students who need a little extra help, such as check-in/check-out, mentoring, or restorative practices.
-
Tier 3: Individualized plans for students with ongoing challenges, with support from specialists.
How We Recognize Positive Behavior:
-
Royal Gems: Earned by individual students for showing our core expectations; can be used for raffles, monthly rewards, and at the Royal Store.
-
Crowned Royal: Whole-class rewards for meeting behavior goals; top classes in each grade are celebrated quarterly.
Special Events & Rewards:
-
Royal Store: December 17 & on Field Day, plus monthly raffles/experiences.
-
Royal Assemblies: November 5, February 4, and May 15 – celebrating students who model outstanding behavior. More information to come.
We teach and re-teach expectations throughout the year, using fun “Cool Tool” lessons, and we track data to ensure students get the right support at the right time.
By working together—staff, families, and students—we create a positive, respectful, and safe environment where every Knight can shine! ✨
