Principal's Corner- October 2, 2026
Dear Families,
We are in a great stretch for learning with eight full weeks of school. The only exception is Election Day on Tuesday, Nov 3. That will bring us up to the week of Thanksgiving and teacher-family conferences starting on Nov 23. We are wearing green this Tuesday to note Cerebral Palsy Day.
Please try to set time aside most evenings to read with your children. As the weather cools, there is nothing like a warm blanket and good book. Not only do your children get to hear a family member reading to them, but it's also bonding time for both of you. If your child is ready, take turns and have them read to you.
Students are now enjoying the routines of their special area classes (Art, Music, Gym, Library, and STEM), and we are beginning small group lessons in addition to our whole group instruction in our Reading and Math programs. We are a dedicated, collaborative group of professional educators here. Please reach out to any member of the Enfield team if you have a question or a concern.
Happy Autumn,
Dr. Kuhn, Mr. Fleming, and the Enfield Staff

Kindergarten End of Unit Event
Our Kindergarten students recently wrapped up their Nursery Rhymes and Fables unit with a fun-filled celebration—the Nursery Rhyme Olympics!
The entire grade came together to participate in a variety of activities inspired by the nursery rhymes and fables they explored throughout the unit. One of the highlights was the return of the Tortoise and the Hare race, where students cheered on the competitors and enjoyed seeing the story come to life right before their eyes.
It was just as much fun for the adults as it was for our students, and we’re excited to continue making this a special Kindergarten tradition each year!
Wondering who won the race? Check out the video below to find out!
A huge thank-you to our Kindergarten team for creating such a joyful and memorable learning experience for our students. They truly brought learning to life!
NEW - Second Grade Chorus
For the first time, we are offering a free opportunity to all 2nd graders to participate in our new Enfield chorus. Please use the QR coded below for more information and to sign up!
Spirit Day October 6th - World Cerebral Palsy Day
On October 6th, we will celebrate World Cerebral Palsy Day with a building-wide Spirit Day! We invite all elementary students and staff to wear green as we come together to raise awareness, celebrate inclusion, and show our support for individuals with cerebral palsy. We look forward to seeing our school community covered in green!
Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is a national celebration in the United States that honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. It takes place from September 15 to October 15, a time chosen to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile. The celebration began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a full month by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. Today, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to recognize the lasting impact of Latino figures in fields such as politics, art, music, and science, and to celebrate the vibrant cultures that continue to shape the U.S. in meaningful ways.
Star Students of the Week
We’re excited to launch our “Star Student of the Week” program starting the week of October 5th!
Each week, one student from every class will be chosen and recognized for showing their Spartan PRIDE. Our Star Students will be invited to a special morning celebration with the principals, where they’ll receive a few special gifts and have their picture proudly displayed in the hallway for all to see.
By the end of the year, every student will have the opportunity to shine as a “Star of the Week”!
We can’t wait to celebrate our amazing students and the positive choices they’re making each day!
Second Step
Second Step is our curriculum resource for our social-emotional learning program (SEL), which is a research-based program that allows us to foster common language in our school community. These lessons teach our students skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, problem solving, and friendship.

Updates from the Nurse
Health screenings for students will take place in the nurse’s office starting this month. Health screenings are done annually and, for K- 2nd grade students, include hearing, vision and growth assessments. Parents of students who do not pass hearing and vision screenings will continue to be notified by letter or phone. In lieu of the school screening, parents may choose to provide a current vision or growth report from their child’s private doctor. Please contact the school nurse's office with any questions or concerns, angela_hunt@sdst.org.
