Saint of the Month

Living Like the Saints

Matthew 5:4 - "Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted." As you may remember from last week, St. Jane Frances de Chantal spent much of her life mourning. She lost her mother, her husband, as well as infant and adult children. God led her down a path she may not have expected, yet by His grace, she perservered with trust and faith through spiritual dryness and emotional turmoil. He may not have allieviated her suffering directly but as a result, Jane learned and fostered immense gentleness and compassion for others. God did not leave her in desolation, He brought her a wise spiritual advisor and many deserving spiritual daughters to mentor. We all mourn of different things, for different reasons and in different ways. What or who has God put in your path to comfort your sorrows? How is God calling you to comfort those who mourn?

PBIS

In September and October, our PBIS school-wide lesson will focus on personal space. Lessons will be taught to all students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade. Teachers and staff have noticed more students displaying physical touch in the hallways and on the playground, so these lessons will help students practice respecting each other’s personal space in different settings.

To reinforce this at home, parents can:

  • Model appropriate personal space during family interactions.
  • Use clear language to remind children about their “personal bubble.”
  • Praise their child when they respect others’ personal space.
  • Role-play different social situations where personal space matters (e.g., standing in line, greeting a friend, playing on the playground, sitting at the dinner table).

With Oxtoberfest right around the corner, we need YOUR help to make it an unforgettable celebration for our parish and community! You can make a difference in several ways:

  • Tell us you're coming—registrations for prize-winning activities are listed above.
  • Donate an item or basket to the Silent Auction by contacting Kayla Boyle: kayla.boyle@slte.org or 515-964-1278.

  • Make a gift to the wine pull. Details below.

For just $20 a pull (or 3 pulls for $50), participants get to draw a mystery bottle of fine wine to take home and enjoy. The fun is in the surprise—every bottle is worth at least $20, and some are valued much higher!

To make this possible, we need your help stocking the rack! We’re asking for donations of bottled red wines valued at $20 or more. Dry, sweet, port, sparkling, or dessert—any style is welcome!

Drop off your bottles at the parish office anytime between now and Oct 13.

Don’t let those unopened bottles gather dust—donate them to Oxtoberfest and let them bring joy to someone else’s table!
