Questions:

  • What is the protocol when students are sent home for a fever?

If the student has a fever of over 100.4, they must be out for 24 hours without medication. The 24 hours start counting from the time the doctor determines the fever. A doctor's note is needed to determine that the student no longer has a fever and can return.

  • When a student is late, is it counted as an absence?

If the student is 10 minutes late, that is when they are counted as absent. After 3 late arrivals before 10 minutes, it is counted as an absence.

  • My daughter has Down syndrome, can she qualify to receive dyslexia services?

Each case is individual, and they can evaluate her to see the needs of each student.

  • How do students receive dyslexia services?

Students are seen by the dyslexia teacher daily, depending on the student's need, they are seen right there in class, or they are removed from class to give them a more individual service.

  • How can we help our children at home when they are diagnosed with dyslexia?

It is recommended that they read to them, or they read aloud, and listen to audio books.

Comments:

As parents, try to take your children to the doctor on Mondays so that you do not miss another day of the week.

When students’ vaccines are not current, the nurses send 3 notifications to the parents so that they can take their children to get them. After the fourth notification, if the student still does not have the vaccines, the student is expelled until they receive them.

Dyslexia services are received by the dyslexia teacher through the Special Education program of the San Elizario district.
