Please keep personal playground equipment at home Please keep personal playground equipment at home

As we are finally able to enjoy warmer spring weather, some students are beginning to bring their own playground equipment to school. We ask all students to keep this equipment at home however. In particular, hard baseballs, hard softballs, and baseball bats are not permitted to be used by our students at breaks. MMS has a variety of equipment that is available for student use at breaks during the day. As well, our equipment monitors will again begin signing equipment out from the canteen for use at breaks.

Spring Learning trips will need volunteers! Spring Learning trips will need volunteers!

Many of our classes have Learning Trips scheduled for this spring, and we can always benefit from having parent volunteers be a part of those trips! Parents, if you are hoping to help out with an upcoming learning trip for your child's class, please plan ahead and ensure MMS has an updated criminal record check and child abuse registry check on file for you. All volunteers must have these checks completed before working with our kids. Scroll down to the bottom of this newsletter to find more information about the documentation needed for all volunteers.

Student Pick Up Process

Now that we have all gotten into the Covid pick-up practice, it is now time to go back to the usual pick-up practice of the past!

We would ask that parents please park on Willow Street and come into the building to collect their students. This allows for a more seamless handoff to parents and ensures that students are signed out of the building.

Please refrain from calling the office from your car, and rather, come on in! This helps us to ensure we have a safe hand off for the students in our building.

Canteen Use Clarification

We have been observing an increase in "overspending" at the canteen, and many instances of students distributing their purchases to friends in different classrooms, which we believe is not the intention of the parents or the canteen in general.

As a school our canteen follows the following rules:

1. The canteen is not intended to be a place to purchase a whole lunch, but rather a treat or extra item to add to lunches.

2. Students should only be purchasing for themselves, not for their friends.

3. A couple of dollars is all that kids need for making purchases at the canteen. Our prices are very low! Bringing larger bills to school can lead to lost money and other issues.

4. The students have all been reminded of the intent and purpose of the canteen for their use.

Thanks so much for helping us manage and maintain our canteen program!

Paperwork for Parent Volunteers - Get it done early!

Parents, please be reminded that all HSD volunteers are required to have a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check cleared before you are able to work with our students. A number of other forms need to be completed in the office. If you are hoping to support a learning trip, or coach a team, please come in to the office early to complete this paperwork. It can take up to a month for all of the checks to clear. The procedure for completing Criminal Record Checks and Child Abuse Registry Checks can be found at the bottom of this newsletter.

Volunteer Procedure for 2022-2023

MMS is looking forward to welcoming volunteers back into the school this year. If you hope to support the school this year by volunteering your time, please take note of the following expectations for school based volunteers, that have been established by Hanover School Division.

Volunteers who currently have an approved Child Abuse Check in our database, only need to apply for the Criminal Records Check to complete their permissions. Once the Criminal Records Check has been completed and submitted to the school, the volunteer can proceed to volunteer. Volunteers who have a valid Criminal Record Check on file with HSD will still be required to sign an Annual Declaration that confirms the Criminal Record Check on file remains accurate. Contact the school office to sign the Annual Declaration.

All new volunteers must complete a CRC and a CAC.

The process to complete the Criminal Records Check for school start-up September 2022.

  1. Parents email the RCMP - carole.robidoux@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
  2. Parents contact school for letter (print off power school) waving the fee

The Child Abuse Registry Check can be completed in the school office.
