Family Update- September 29, 2025
Week of September 29, 2025

****Updated**** Family UpdateWeek of September 29, 2025
From your Principals
Skyline’s Homecoming week is right around the corner, and we are excited for all of the fun events and traditions ahead! Class shirts, Sky shirts, and Sky hoodies have begun being distributed during lunch in the Commons at the indoor concession stand (next to the student microwave). If you ordered online through Underground Printing, please remind your student to stop by and pick up their items as soon as possible.
The week kicks off with the Powder Puff Flag Football Game on Monday, September 29th at 7:00 PM, where the Class of 2026 seniors will take on the Class of 2027 juniors. Entry is free, though donations for the Sky Food Pantry are encouraged. Any Skyline student who arrives by halftime with their ID will be entered into a gift card drawing. The game will begin once the varsity field hockey game has concluded.
Spirit Week runs Tuesday through Friday, giving students a chance to show their Eagle pride:
Tue 9/30: Pajamas & Stuffed Animal Day
Wed 10/1: Twin/Squad Day
Thur 10/2: Team/Sports or Favorite Athlete Day
Fri 10/3: Class Color Day (9th–White, 10th–Sky Blue, 11th–Navy, 12th–Black, Staff–Gray). The theme for Friday night’s football game is a Black Out.
Wednesday also begins the holiest of the Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur. We want to take a moment to honor and celebrate Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in the Jewish tradition, which begins at sundown on October 1st and ends at sundown on October 2nd. Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is a time of reflection, prayer, and fasting, when many observe the day by seeking forgiveness and setting intentions for the year ahead. To all of our Skyline families observing, we wish you an easy fast and a meaningful Yom Kippur. May this time of reflection bring peace, renewal, and hope for the year to come.
Thursday, October 2nd, Skyline will host our first annual T-Wall/ Skyline event, a new Homecoming Week tradition where students and staff come together to celebrate school spirit. This event not only represents Skyline pride and unity but also connects our school to a greater cause. The T. Wall Foundation works with over 2,000 special needs families each year across Washtenaw, Livingston, and Wayne counties, providing critical resources and joyful experiences for youth with disabilities. As a first responder for families in dire financial distress, the foundation acts with empathy and urgency to alleviate burdens and provide crucial support. In addition to resources, they host uplifting events such as Victor's Day and T. Wall B. Ball, creating opportunities for joy, inclusion, and connection. By participating in the T-Wall event, Skyline students and staff are supporting a tradition that not only builds our own community spirit but also raises awareness for the powerful work being done to support and uplift special needs families in our area.
Friday, October 3rd, will be a full day of celebration, starting with the Homecoming Pep Rally (for Skyline students only) during the last hour of the school day, featuring the annual Senior vs. Junior “PowderTuff” volleyball match. If your student will need to be excused early on Friday, please make sure you call the main office prior to 10:00 am, as we will not be excusing students after this time due to the pep rally preparations. We also have a quiet space for students who may be overstimulated and not able to handle the pep rally. To access this space, students will need to obtain a pass and be added to the list in one of the SLC offices.
At 5:30 PM, our annual Homecoming Parade is happening right here on the Skyline campus! Come cheer on our amazing Skyline teams and clubs as they bring the parade route to life with school spirit and energy. We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s Grand Marshal will be none other than Maureen “MoJo” Issac, our beloved long-time swim and dive coach who has inspired countless Skyline students. The celebration doesn’t stop there! After the parade, join us for a family-friendly tailgate party outside the football stadium. Enjoy delicious bites from local food trucks, and plenty of school spirit for the whole family.
The Football Game vs. Pioneer kicks off at 7:00 PM with the Black Out theme for the student section. Students with current Skyline IDs get in free. The halftime show will include performances from the marching band, poms, and the presentation of the Homecoming Court.
Please know we will have enhanced safety and security measures. AAPD will be present as always in the stadium and we will have two officers patrolling the parking lot. We play Pioneer and anticipate a big turnout. We will be counting spectators to ensure we do not reach our spectator capacity. Please plan to get on campus early as there is a possibility we will reach a maximum capacity. If this happens, we will turn away guests. You will notice increased fencing and a separation of Pioneer and Skyline guests. All Pioneer students and guests will enter the far gate near the baseball fields. All students will be given a wristband. Skyline/Pioneer students in the stadium without a wristband will be escorted out. As stated, if we reach a maximum capacity, no students or guests will be admitted. Please plan to get there early!
Homecoming Dance tickets will be sold Tuesday, September 30th, through Friday, October 3rd, at both lunches. Tickets are $30 in advance (cash/check all week, credit card available Tue–Thur only) or $40 at the door (cash/check only). No refunds, transfers, or exchanges are available. The Homecoming Dance will be held in the Commons on Saturday, October 4th, from 8–11 PM (doors close at 9:30 PM). Students and approved guests must present ID and a ticket to enter. Please remember: no bags, backpacks, or purses (small clutches only), and all items will be checked at coat check. This is a semi-formal event, and light refreshments will be served.
Finally, we welcome and appreciate our parent/guardian volunteers who would like to help chaperone the dance. To participate, volunteers must complete a background check form (with signature), email it with a copy of their driver’s license to Mr. Bilsborrow, and sign up through the provided Sign-Up Genius link below in the Homecoming section of the newsletter. Thank you in advance for helping us create a safe and memorable Homecoming experience for our students!
Your Skyline Administration Team,
Casey Elmore, Andre Criswell, Terri Patterson, Delsie Sissoko and Lamanzer Williams

Parent/Teacher Conferences
All Parent/Teacher Conferences will occur in The Commons here at Skyline High School on Tuesday, October 7th, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. You must schedule a conference with each teacher you wish to speak with. We utilize the website PTCFast.com to enable parents to sign-up for 5-minute conference slots with their child’s teachers. You will receive an individual email from each teacher you have signed-up to meet with. If you signed-up to meet with 4 teachers, you will receive 4 separate confirmation emails. Please sign up for no more than one time slot with each teacher. Also, please allow at least 5 minutes between each conference; do not sign up for back-to-back conference slots.
If your child is doing well in a particular class, and you have no concerns, you do not need to sign up for a conference with that teacher. We encourage you to sign up for a conference slot with a teacher if your student is struggling and/or you have concerns about the class.
Again, the Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on:
Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Here in The Commons of Skyline High School
If you haven’t yet used PTCFast.com, you will be pleasantly surprised at how simple you will find the process. There are no codes to enter and there is only one website to visit. The conferences are listed alphabetically by the teacher’s last name, and you will only need an email address to make your selections. The conferences are now open, but they will fill up soon, so don’t wait!
Instructions for Making Parent / Teacher Conference Appointments:
1. Go to this website:
https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Skyline_High_School_3
…or you can be taken directly to the webpage by clicking HERE!
2. Check the box for each Teacher you would like to meet with, then click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page.
3. You may create conferences for more than one student, if you have more than one student at Skyline, but for most of you, you will then check the first selection, which is: These are all for one student.
4. Enter your student’s first name
5. Enter your student’s last name
6. Enter YOUR (parent’s) name
7. Enter and confirm YOUR email address
8. Click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page to begin the signup process.
Please note that the following teachers are unable to attend conferences on October 7th, and will be offering an alternate conference date:

Good News
Skyline Filmmakers Premiere at the Michigan Theatre
Last spring, Skyline students in the CMPP Magnet Program participated in the Legacies Project - an effort to build a record of our local history in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and surrounding cities. Working in small teams, they conducted interviews with six community elders ("narrators") and created short biographical films to bring each person's story to life. This year’s group includes Skyline's very own Gary Cooper!
The Legacies Premiere took place this past weekend at the Michigan Theatre. The event was an exciting opportunity for our students to honor their narrators and see their work on the big screen. Below are our Skyline filmmakers, posing in the shade of the marqee:

AAPS authorization form for private transportation is linked below. Please follow these important instructions in order for you to drive your student home following a competition when school transportation is provided:
- The coach ultimately determines if players are allowed to travel separately from the team.
- Players can only ride with their parent/guardian
- The form needs to be completed ahead of time and communicated in advance with the coach
- Do not email private transportation forms directly to the AD
- Private Vehicle Authorization
Please familiarize yourself with our athletic and event policies:
- Skyline Academic Eligibility

All students will need their school id to get into home athletic events for free!
Please follow Arbiter for the most up to date game schedules:
ATHLETE ATTENDANCE
Athletes are required to be in school a minimum of 3 class periods in order to participate in practice or competition each day. All coaches will be receiving an ineligible list of players daily. It is our expectation that coaches check this daily and exclude those players from practice or competition.
Any student new to Skyline and is in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade must complete the New Student Form and be approved by the athletic director before participating in any sport!
Sincerely,
Delsie Sissoko

PSAT/NMSQT Readiness Check Day and Test Day
Attention Juniors!
The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that helps students prepare for the SAT, assess college readiness, and qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. It provides valuable practice in reading, writing, and math skills aligned with college entrance exams.
As we approach test day, here are a few important items to note:
11th graders will complete a Digital Readiness Check during Skytime on October 1, 2025. This will help all 11th graders ensure their Macbook, accounts, and skills are prepared for upcoming online assessments and learning activities. It verifies access, functionality, and familiarity with digital tools needed for success. As always, students should bring their district-issued MacBook to complete the readiness check and for typical daily activities.
On October 8, 2025 our 11th graders will complete PSAT/NMSQT. The juniors will have the building to themselves as they arrive at the typical time and there will be a late start/arrival for Grades 9, 10 & 12. As always, students should bring their district-issued MacBook to take the test. In addition, it’ll be extremely important for students to have a restful night of sleep, arrive early for breakfast and make time to ease into your testing experience for the day.
Lastly, breathe, focus, and remember….you already know more than you think!

Securly Parent Portal
Securly Parent Portal - How to Opt In
In the AAPS, we utilize a cloud-based web filter called Securly to keep students safe on their district-issued device. To help parents monitor their child's online activity at home, AAPS offers the free Securly Home app. This application allows web-based filtering and parental controls on district-issued devices at home. Parents may set rules to allow or disallow certain websites, pause the internet connection to the device as desired, and receive weekly usage reports. To OPT-IN to the Securly Parent Portal service, please encourage families to use the pathway as outlined below:
STEP #1: Read about the AAPS Securly - 25-26 Parent Portal Opt-In opportunity available to all families.
STEP #2: Sign-up on the Securly Parent Portal Program Form.
STEP #3: Look for an email from Securly when your account is ready to go (it can take up to 48 hours to receive).
STEP #4: Download the Securly Home App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
STEP #5: Navigate the App to explore different views into your child's online safety and check out the AAPS Securly Parent Portal FAQs.
If families have any questions, they can always reach out to the Student & Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
AP Exam Registration
AP Exam registration season is here! Please see below for updated information.
Assessment Formats
As a reminder, last year was our first year offering a combination of fully digital, hybrid, and traditional paper-based assessments. The good news is that there are no format changes this year. All exams will continue to be administered at the Eastern Michigan University Student Center.
Test Ordering – Important Change
The one major change this year is how students will order their exams:
Pioneer students will order exams directly through their AP Classroom.
A2 Virtual+, Community, Huron, and Skyline students will also enroll in your AP Classroom but will need to order their exams using an Exam Only Code.
Students who are self-studying will also use the Exam Only Codes.
You can find the Exam Only Codes here:
Exam Only Codes Spreadsheet
AP Testing Website
We will continue to use the district AP website to share information with students and families. Please review the site and feel free to share it with your classes. The site includes the exam schedule, registration instructions, and other resources. Details on test administration will be added in the coming weeks.
Digital IDs Available
Students must have a school ID on them at all times and in order to enter the building if coming in after the start of the day. If it's easier to have it on their phone or they lost their physical ID, they can download a digital ID as an acceptable option. The directions to download a digital ID are linked below.
WISD Countywide CTE Millage
Did you know? Career Technical Education, or CTE, helps students learn by doing, and combines classroom learning with hands-on experiences and real-world skills. From PreK-12, students can explore their purpose, passion, and potential. Then they can connect to future-focused careers in high-wage, high-skill, in-demand pathways in our region like:
- Aviation and aerospace
- Automotive technology
- Computer science
- Construction trades
- Cybersecurity
- Entrepreneurship
- Environmental science
- Health sciences
- Robotics and engineering
If the CTE millage is approved in November, a countywide PreK-12 CTE model would expand access to both new and existing CTE programs and offer more opportunities to help prepare students for college, careers and beyond! Learn more at www.washtenawisd.org/ctemillage.
Student Parking on Campus
Skyline Student Parking Privileges & Guidelines - PARKING Expectations
Closed Campus
During the course of the school day, students are not permitted to leave the building/campus without permission. Students may not report to their vehicles during the school day without administrators permission. If a student is caught outside of the building without permission, he/she will be subject to disciplinary action. Further violations will result in loss of parking privileges at Skyline High School.
Skyline Student Parking Privileges & Guidelines - PARKING Expectations
The Skyline Parking Policy is enforced by Administrators and the Ann Arbor Police Department.
Parking on school property is by PERMIT ONLY during school hours.
All hang tag permits must be hung from the rearview mirror, and must be visible through the windshield.
Replacement permits will be issued by the Innovation office for a $3.00 replacement fee.
Parking permits may not be transferred, copied or sold to others
Park ONLY in spaces legal for student parking in the student parking lot
Parking in staff or reserved spaces, handicapped, fire or driving lanes, bus and parent loops or on the grass will result in towing at the owner's expense.
Cars without current school year permits are subject to towing at the owner's expense.
All parking spaces are on a first come basis.
After paying for your parking permit online, go to the Innovation office to pick up your hang tag. If you are paying with cash or check, (check made to Skyline High School), go to the Innovation office with your payment to receive your permit hang tag.
Vehicles on Campus
Vehicles parked on school property are under the jurisdiction of the school. The school reserves the right to search any vehicle, if reasonable suspicion exists to do so. Students have full responsibility for the security of their vehicles and will make certain they are locked and that keys are not given to others. Students will be held responsible for any prohibited objects or substances, such as alcohol, drugs, and weapons, that are found in their cars and will be subject to disciplinary action. Searches of vehicles, as well as general searches of school property, may be conducted at any time if there is reasonable suspicion to do so, with or without the presence of the student. If the vehicle subject to search is locked, the student shall be asked to unlock the vehicle. If the student refuses, we will contact the student’s parent(s). If parent(s) also refuse to permit the vehicle to be searched, we may contact local law enforcement officials and turn the matter over to them.
Parking Violations
Students are also responsible for parking vehicles legally and safe driving. If parked illegally, the vehicle is subject to being towed at the expense of the owner. The principals shall have the discretion to set eligibility for parking on campus.
If you fail to park in your permitted area:
Warning
Parking permits revoked for second offense
1st offense: Warning
2nd offense: your car will be towed at your expense.
Skyline is a Closed Campus
No Food Deliveries During The School Day
To keep learning on track and our campus secure, students may not receive food deliveries (Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, etc.) at any time during the school day. Delivery drivers will be turned away. The office and staff will not accept, hold, or deliver food for students.
Why this rule matters
Safety: Unknown adults coming to campus create security risks.
Learning time: Deliveries disrupt classes and office operations.
Equity & order: One clear rule keeps expectations fair and consistent for everyone.
Closed campus reminder: Students may not leave school to get food during the day. If a student leaves class for food, they will be sent back to class and school discipline consequences may apply per the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Students may bring lunch from home or use the cafeteria. Thank you for supporting a safe, focused learning environment.
School Safety is a Shared Responsibility

Students, staff and parents can initiate an anonymous tip outside of the app via:

The AAPS Securly Tip Line is another step that we know will assist our students, families and staff to ensure appropriate support and safety in our schools.

AAPS Food Service 2025-26 School Year- Action Needed for All Families
All individual food items ( not taken as part of the full meal offered) , such as milk only, are not free to students. Students must pay for these individual items via the Meal Magic payment system.
Even though the State of Michigan continues to provide free breakfast and lunch meals for all students, it is important that every AAPS family fills out the Education Benefit Form (EBF), regardless of financial status. Filling out the EBF form helps AAPS maintain our current funding levels. We appreciate your assistance in filling out the EBF form.
Without this information from every family, AAPS could lose important state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to. These supplemental grants and programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:
✓ Instructional staff (ex. Reading Interventionists, Math, Academic and Behavior Aids)
✓ Counselors, Social Workers and School Nurses
✓ Professional Learning for staff
✓ Technology
What do I need to do?
Please complete the EBF form. You may fill out a paper form or complete the form online.
Important Notes:
✓ Include ALL students on one form, even if they attend different AAPS schools.
✓ If you completed the form online, do not fill out a paper copy. Contact Food Service to verify submission.
✓ For translations: visit a2schools.org → Departments → Food Service → Education Benefit Forms for All Families.
How do I submit my form? Choose one of the following methods:
1. Online: visit https://annarbor.familyportal.cloud, then click “Apply for Benefits”
2. In person: Return completed form to your student’s school.
3. By Mail:

Special Dietary Needs for Students
From Chartwells:
Our Special Diets Program can accommodate a variety of dietary needs. This includes, but is not limited to, food allergies (e.g., gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, etc.) and other medical conditions that may require special dietary needs (e.g., diabetes, sensory sensitivities, celiac disease, etc.).
We prepare and provide meals for a variety of special diets in an allergen-friendly kitchen. Following their preparation, the meals are distributed to each student’s school weekly for the kitchen staff to reheat and serve. The kitchen staff will have a list of which students are enrolled in the program at their school and will have the meals prepared, however they may need assistance in identifying each student. Parents are encouraged to have their child introduce themself to kitchen staff.
Enrollment:
To enroll in the special diets program, we need a completed USDA Special Dietary Statement (SDS) which is linked below and available on our website. This statement must include signatures from both a parent/guardian and a medical professional. This required documentation must be submitted to the district dietitian at aaps_dietary_requests@aaps.k12.mi.us so that an individualized meal plan can be developed prior to serving any meals to the student.
While we strive to meet the highest standards of food safety and dietary accommodation, there are limitations to what we can provide. The program cannot accommodate religious requests or dietary preferences- more specific information regarding this can be found on the USDA Special Diet Statement.
Additionally, we are not able to provide absolute guarantees of zero cross-contact with allergens, as we are not able to offer a 100% allergen-free kitchen environment.
