An Update from Hough Elementary

Welcome Back to School!
Dear Hough Families,
I cannot believe that we are getting ready for the first day of school! I hope you had an amazing vacation and your family got to check off many to-do's from your summer bucket list activities and goals. I have seen many Hough families around town over the summer and enjoyed hearing about your summer adventures! As we get ready for the upcoming school year, my heart is filled with joy and excitement for all the possibilities a fresh school year holds for our students. I look forward to seeing all of our Hawks in the next few weeks as we roll into this new school year. I want to take a moment to introduce Annie Anderson, our new Hough Assistant Principal. Annie comes to us with many years of experience as an educator, including roles as teacher, instructional coach, director, and principal. She has spent many years overseas in these roles and brings a fresh perspective and much expertise to her new role at Hough .
Although there are still a couple weeks left before the first day of school, I wanted to share some important school updates and events for you to put on the family calendar as you begin to plan for the flurry of events that accompanies a new school year. We have added several new staff to Hough for this school year.. Beth Losch is joining us an an assistant in kindergarten. Mikaela Mosquera is joining us as our new Occupational Therapist. Kathleen Laughlin (Holmberg) has decided to stay home with her son, so we are in the process of finalizing a hire for our second grade classroom. We will miss her and wish her all the best.
The new Barrington District 220 "Back to School" website is also a great source of information that outlines "back to school" details, including school supply lists, Back To School Night dates, and PTO contact info.
Finally, various school improvement projects have been underway this summer; new playground, larger lunchroom kitchen and improved front office. We are looking forward to all of this great work wrapping up in the next few weeks. Thank you to our wonderful custodians, Mr. José and Mr. Varney, as they have worked all summer to transform our entire building into a clean and shiny place to learn and play.
