Classrooms Without Walls

By Leona Houchens, Editor

This little bunny waited patiently for students to show up to our school after spring break. He was ready to twitch his cute little nose for you and say, "WELCOME BACK!" Little does this bunny know that we are back in school in classrooms without walls. We can be so glad that we have had experience with eLearning so we are able to finish this school year.

Even though we are not together physically, The Shiner Times still wants to report on what is happening with our students. We still want to encourage each other to do our best. Be sure to read every word by our student writers. Please send us your pictures and stories as we ask for them to reveal what is going on in your little corner of Manchester School!

Good Habits Make eLearning Easier

By Davin Hudnall

#1 Be Proactive - I choose to get up early and meet with my teacher online. I choose to get my work done quickly, and then I choose to have a fun recess at home.

#2 Begin With The End In Mind

I plan to stay healthy! Set goals and make a difference as a citizen of the USA.

#3 Put First Things First

The Pandemic can't stop the moving of brains. "Set priorities, make a schedule, and follow through."

#4 Think Win-Win

Life is tough. You'll need friends to help you along the way. We are in this together!

#5 Seek First to Understand then be Understood

I have some good ideas, but I think my friends might have even better ideas.

#6 Synergize

We need help solving this Corona problem so let's rely on each other's strengths, just like on MES field day.

#7 Sharpen the Saw

Exercise makes me feel right. I am able to smile even in quarantine when I run, and jump, and breathe!

Find Your Voice, Share Your Voice!!

By Kamden Blackburn

Finding your voice is Leader in Me Habit #8. It means you have discovered your talents, you use them in a positive way, and you inspire others to do so also. Ways to find your talent is to do hobbies and see how good you are at them. Ask others such as family or friends about things they think you’re good at. Just going through daily life and thinking back on what you’ve done that day and the things you loved doing can help. You are unique and we want to know you better. We challenge you to share with the Shiner Times(leona.houchens@sdcsc.k12.in.us) something that you are good at and think you would like to do forever! Please send us a picture that you draw or a photograph that represents what you really love doing. Please include your name, grade, and at least one sentence telling us about it.

Class In Your Own Backyard

By Jessica Wullenweber

“Look at that moon!” On the night of April 7th, 2020, there was a beautiful pink moon. The pink moon is the biggest & brightest of 2020. This full moon appeared larger and brighter than usual because the moon was at perigee, or the closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit. In my opinion, since we were all at home, it was a perfect opportunity to see it. Just go outside and observe, we can find many new and interesting things in our own back yards. Please email the Shiner Times with your Classroom Highlights (leona.houchens@sdcsc.k12.in.us). Be sure to include student names, grade, and a report on what happened or what you saw. Always send pictures if you can.

Show Your School Colors!

By Jessica Wullenweber

“At MES we have three ways respectful, responsible, and always safe; no school better can be found, at MES we’re college bound.” Even though we can’t finish out our school year how we planned, we can still show our school spirit. Send in your best picture of you in our school colors of blue and yellow. (leona.houchens@sdcsc.k12.in.us)

The New Games In Town

“UNO!!” says Mason. Scrabble, Monopoly, Puzzles, The Game of Life are just a few of the many games kids are playing while in quarantine. Many kids are bored and don’t know what to do. Some say they play video games while others say I want to play sports. Playing board games is a great thing to do with your whole family. It's kind of like playing a sport where there is more than one person playing, but you also have to be strategic and have quick moves like with video games. We would love to see what board games you are playing with your family to overcome being bored these days. You can send in a picture and a sentence telling us your student’s name and grade and what game you are playing by emailing leona.houchens@sdcsc.k12.in.us. This will become our new Sports Talk Section. Remember when you play board games, “Stay Calm and Wash Your Hands!”

Dr. Werner Says,

"We are off to a great start for eLearning! While it's not the same as seeing students in person everyday, it's been fun to keep in contact with teachers, students and parents online while we are staying safe at home. I appreciate the hard work and flexibility from everyone as we continue to adapt to this new style of learning. Please reach out if there is anything that we can do to better support your family during this challenging time."
