Our Head Teacher's Final Message of the Spring Term

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the end of another successful term, I want to take a moment to reflect on the ambition that drives us as a school. At Lister Community School, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student thrives — academically, socially, and personally. This means celebrating achievements, maintaining high expectations, and ensuring that every young person is supported to reach their full potential.

This term has been one of progress, positivity, and purpose. From academic successes to personal growth, our students continue to demonstrate resilience and ambition. As we prepare for the final stretch of the academic year, we remain focused on providing the best possible learning experience—whether through targeted interventions, pastoral support, or maintaining the high standards that define our school.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and I wish you all a restful and enjoyable holiday in order to have a fantastic summer term in school.

We will close for the Easter holidays on Friday 4th April at 2.30pm, and re-open on Tuesday 22nd April at 8.25am.

Year 11 Countdown

Another week has gone. This is shown in the picture, which is being shared by English teachers as a way to prompt their students into working harder and longer to get to those final GCSE outcomes. There are lots of intervention sessions available after school and before school for Lister students. Whilst the majority of these sessions are targeted, most teachers will be happy to include volunteer students who want to get on with some extra work. Some students will be invited into school during the first week of the Easter holidays for further intervention. All students are welcome to use the library as a study space. If you receive the invitation, please make sure your child attends.

Here is a list of supportive strategies that you can use to help your child:

  • Create a Supportive Home Environment:
    • Establish a quiet and dedicated study space.
    • Minimize distractions during study time.
    • Offer encouragement and positive reinforcement.
  • Help with Organization and Time Management:
    • Assist in creating a revision timetable.
    • Ensure they are taking regular breaks and maintaining a healthy balance.
    • Help them prioritize tasks and manage deadlines.
  • Encourage Regular Revision:
    • Emphasize the importance of consistent, short revision sessions rather than last-minute cramming.
    • Help them use effective revision techniques (e.g., flashcards, mind maps, practice papers).
    • Limit Screen Time:
      • Encourage them to limit the time spent on phones and social media.
      • Offer to take phones away for periods of solid revision, so that they do not have to resist the urge to use their phones.
      • Help them use technology as a revision tool, not a distraction.

  • Lastly - Celebrate Successes!

    • Acknowledge and celebrate their efforts and achievements, no matter how small.
    • Reassure them that you are proud of them, regardless of the outcome.

Lister Cheer Team Strikes Gold at Excel Centre Competition!

The Excel Centre witnessed an incredible display of talent and determination on Friday, as our Lister Community School cheerleading team, led by the amazing Ms Coke, took home the gold!

The team performed the dynamic routine they've diligently perfected throughout the year, captivating the judges and audience alike with their energy, precision, and infectious spirit. Their performance was nothing short of spectacular, resulting in yet another well-deserved gold medal victory for Lister!

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that only a small number of students on the team had any prior gymnastics experience. The majority of the team entered the cheerleading club with no previous background in cheerleading, dance, or gymnastics. This win is a testament to their incredible dedication, hard work, and the exceptional coaching provided by Ms Coke.

The team's success highlights not only their physical prowess but also their unwavering commitment and teamwork. They have proven that with passion and determination, anything is possible.

A massive congratulations to Ms Coke and the entire cheerleading team! You have made Lister Community School incredibly proud. Your gold medal victory is a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication and aiming for excellence.

    Food Bank Today!

We are holding our regular food bank distribution today, directly after school, to support families in our community. We understand that these times can be challenging, and we are committed to providing assistance where we can. The School food bank runs before every half term/full term holiday, so all students have access to food over their holidays. Students can come and take what they like, within reason, apart from rice and pasta. The food bank is open to any student who may require it. The next food bank for our students will be on Wednesday 2nd of April, in the training room near the main reception.

    This will start at 3:30pm.

    * Please enter via the main gate and follow the designated queue in the reception area.

    * Not all food is halal. Please check for ingredients.

    * We cannot cater for allergens, as the food is donated to us and has allergens within the products.

    * The food bank is completely run by volunteers, so please be patient with staff and respectful with each other.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring a smooth and efficient distribution process. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask our volunteers on site.
