"Crazy 8's Math Club" is a recreational after-school program designed to make math fun for elementary-aged children by incorporating active, engaging activities like building, running, jumping, and making music, essentially "hiding" math concepts within playful activities like "Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry" or "Toilet Paper Olympics", aiming to make math enjoyable for kids of all abilities and reduce math anxiety through a non-traditional approach.

Oh the Weather is so Delightful...

Please remember to send your child with clothes for all weather. We will be outside up until the "feels like temperature" is 10 degrees. Students need to bring warm layers to enjoy their outside time. Please send your child with a change of clothes, just in case.

Winter Benchmarking is Underway! Winter Benchmarking is Underway!

Dear Families,

At Francestown Elementary School, students take benchmark assessments three times a year. These assessments help guide instruction, determine next steps, and measure student growth and grade-level performance.

The upcoming assessment period is scheduled for January 13–24. These assessments include a combination of computer-based activities and one-on-one work with adults.

As part of our upcoming benchmark assessments, students in Kindergarten through third grade will participate in a dyslexia screener. This is in accordance with New Hampshire's law, Screening and Intervention for Dyslexia and Related Disorders (RSA 200:59), which took effect on September 26, 2023. The screener is designed to identify potential indicators or risk factors of dyslexia and related disorders. Please note that these screenings are not diagnostic tools but are meant to help identify students who may be at risk. This allows us to provide timely, systematic, and structured literacy interventions to support their success.

Once these assessments are completed, we will share the results with families.

A great way to support your child during this time is by ensuring they get plenty of sleep and have a nutritious breakfast to start their day.

Thank you for your continued support!

Warm regards,

Rachel Lunan-Hill

True Blue Coming Friday, January 17th True Blue Coming Friday, January 17th

A musical production about the importance of being true to yourself and what you know is right is sure to ring true in everyone's hearts. It's hard to be an upstander and tough to be a bystander too. This production attempts to unpack some of these important concepts through theatre, music and dance and to teach children to care about themselves and others.

Weather Words

This week in Kindergarten we read the book Weather Words and What they Mean. We have learned the four things that make up the weather, temperature, air pressure, moisture, and wind. On Friday we did an experiment with shaving cream and food coloring to show when the rain drops in clouds are heavy enough they fall.

A Citizen of the World

In library, we eased into our first week back with a discussion on the uniqueness and the life cycle of a snowflake. Students then created their own snowflake using markers and a water dropper to demonstrate their uniqueness. This week, students also completed their unit on digital citizenship. Students discussed the importance of kindness and safety while online and how we can take a break from digital tools.
