Wired for Success

In fifth-grade science, students spent three exciting days diving into the world of electricity! They explored how conductors and insulators work and discovered what it takes to create a complete circuit. After designing their own creative circuit board games, students used materials to build a simple working circuit that brought their games to life. The best part was testing their boards by lighting up the correct answers, turning learning into a fun, hands-on challenge full of teamwork, problem-solving, and lots of excitement!

Join Us in Making a Difference!

Literacy is a foundation for both individual success and community well-being. In Walton County, only around 43% of third-grade students are proficient in English Language Arts, meaning more than half are still developing essential reading skills that help them succeed in school and beyond. Books for Keeps helps to lessen this gap by providing books for children to read outside of school, exponentially increasing literacy rates. The Interact Club will be running a new and gently-used book drive from 2/10 - 3/16. By expanding access to books, tutoring, and family literacy programs, Walton County can help more children and adults build stronger reading skills, supporting lifelong learning, economic opportunity, and a more vibrant community for everyone

Read Across America at GWA

During the week of March 2-6, lower school will be filled with imagination, school spirit, and a love of reading as students celebrate Read Across America Spirit Week! Each day brings a fun opportunity to participate - from cozy pajama day and team spirit day to grade-level color day and crazy reading attire - leading up to the final day: Book Character Day.

On Friday, March 6, students will dress as a character from a favorite book and bring the book with them to school. Like Halloween, masks will not be permitted. At 10:15 a.m., students will line up in the field house parking lot and parade through the breezeway for our annual Book Character Parade. Parents, along with middle school and upper school students, are invited to join us and cheer on our young readers. We look forward to a joyful week that celebrates the power of books and brings our school community together!

It's an Honor!

In January, five students from the George Walton Academy band program auditioned and were selected for the GMEA District 14 Middle School Honor Band. For their audition, these students spent weeks preparing scales, etudes, and even performed a sight-reading example in the audition. Pictured from left to right: Mr. Ian Cornelius (Assistant Band Director); Dylan Carter; Joey Bouler; Jake Carter; Dallin Peck; Simon Pike. Special shout out: Dallin Peck for earning first chair!
