Congratulations to October's Team Members of the Month!
HMS would like to congratulate our October Team Members of the Month!
While these students are being recognized for a wide variety of reasons, the words most often used in describing these students are "hardworking", "respectful", and "positive".
Please join us in recognizing the accomplishments of these students!
HMS is Here to Help
We understand that making ends meet can be difficult for some families in our HPS community. Therefore, we want to let you know that there are individuals in each of our schools who are ready to provide information and assistance. Resources may be available to help families in times of financial need or other challenging situations. Our particular area of outreach is for food support for the upcoming holidays.
Please don’t hesitate to contact an administrator, the school nurse, or counseling personnel at your child's school if you are in need of food support for the holidays. Rest assured that your request will be managed in a way that respects your rights to confidentiality.
Eighth grade English students reading A Separate Peace stepped into the magical world of Harry Potter this week, sorting the beloved characters of the novel (and themselves) into the appropriate houses!
HMS has a new Project 351 Ambassador!
Congratulations to Grayson Teahan, Grade 8, for being chosen to represent HMS as our Project 351 ambassador! Project 351 celebrates our young leaders who engage in community service and exemplify the values of Kindness, Humility, Compassion, and Gratitude.
Grayson has certainly demonstrated these values both in and out of school by being involved in different community organizations, such as student council, Pawsitively4Pink, and Maddie's Promise. Through Project 351, she will be able to continue to build on her leadership skills in a 12 month journey of civic engagement and service to her community.
Congratulations Grayson!
Introducing Science Explorers!
We’re excited to launch Science Explorers, a new club where students can explore the natural world around us — from local phenomena in Hingham to wonders happening across the globe!
First Meeting: Thursday, November 13
First Exploration: The Leonid Meteor Shower, visible locally on November 16–17
At our kickoff meeting, students will learn about this spectacular celestial event and help plan a year full of engaging science explorations.
Sign Up: Students can register with Sra. Manning in Room 218
Encourage your child to join this exciting opportunity to observe, investigate, and discover the wonders of science firsthand!
Food Drive Donations Needed
Hingham Middle School will be participating in a school-wide food drive. The Hingham Food Pantry is a non-profit run by volunteers. It serves families and individuals in the Hingham community who face food insecurity. Your donations help fill the pantry’s shelves, providing meals and comfort to those in need.
They are looking for the following donations:
Mac & Cheese, Campbell’s Soups, Mashed or Scalloped Potatoes, Healthy Cold Cereal, Crackers, Boxes of Granola Bars, Brownie or Cookie Mix
Students can bring in donations to their homeroom teacher.

We have been going to Pats Peak for 20+ years. We like Pats because it is a small/medium size mountain with good proximity to Hingham. We have a routine and we stick to it.
We have great teacher chaperones that monitor the kids in the lodge and on the slopes. We set up our “base camp” in the Valley Lodge with a big red “H”ingham flag. There is always an HMS chaperone there.
Pats sends us our lift tickets in advance so we are completely organized before we even leave HMS.
We use Yankee Line buses. They are bright yellow coach buses that you have likely seen on the highway. Yankee only employs competent, professional drivers and has a strict focus on safety. We communicate with Yankee, ad-nauseum, regarding traffic, weather and safety.
We leave HMS at 5:45 AM and arrive back here at 5:30 PM.
Before getting off the buses at Pats we review several time and safety reminders with the kids.
Pats Peak has a highly trained ski patrol and a full medical area. Prior to each trip our school nurses review the list of students and send us with the medication and necessities that each child might need. They will often make arrangements with parents in advance.
We stop skiing at 3:00 PM and leave Pats at 3:15.
Check out the Pats Peak website at patspeak.com
I’m sure we are forgetting something. Always feel free to contact us at school with any questions or have the kids see us between classes or at lunch!
Mr. Riordan, Mrs. Canney, and Mr. McCulloch

Additional information can be found on the HMS website under the “Families” section.

Food Support for Families and Free and Reduced Lunch Program
We want to assure you that even with the potential pause in SNAP benefits beginning in November, free, nutritious breakfast and lunch will continue to be available to all students each school day. You can view our menus here.
Food security resources are available, including Project Bread's FoodSource Hotline, https://projectbread.org/foodsource-hotline (1-800-645-8333). FoodSource hotline counselors, in 180 languages, can help families find food assistance through other sources such as the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program and local food pantries. The Hingham Food Pantry is located at Second Parish Church on 685 Main Street (781) 740-8180.
Want to help? Consider donating unopened, non-perishable, and unexpired foods.
Donations can be made at the Hingham Food Pantry, as well as Stop & Shop, Sotheby's, Jack Conway, and Coldwell Banker.
Free and Reduced Lunch Program
Although school meals are free, we encourage families to still apply for meal benefits.
Families can apply at any time throughout the school year, should their household situation change. If you think you might qualify, this could provide access to additional benefits within the district. Applications can be completed online at schoolcafe.com, or you can find hard copies on our Food services site or the district's food service page. For a mailed application, please contact Marisalyn Biagini at mbiagini@hinghamschools.org.
