Kia ora TAPS Families and Whānau,

I hope this newsletter finds you all well and enjoying Autumn. As always, it's my pleasure to update you on the latest happenings here at Te Aroha Primary School as we approach the end of Term 1 and prepare for Term 2's learning adventures.

This term has been full of engaging learning and fun, stimulating extra-curricular activities. It all started with the Family Fun Night, it was a delightful evening filled with laughter, food, and refreshing swims in the pool. Your presence made the event truly special, and it was heartwarming to see families & whānau coming together to create lasting memories.

In Week 3, our students had their learning assessed to help guide us in shaping the direction of Term 1. Understanding each student's needs and strengths is paramount to providing effective education, and we're committed to supporting every child on their learning journey.

Exciting news for Term 2: the Learner Space in the eTap Spotlight Parent App will be activated, giving parents, whānau, and caregivers real-time access to their child's learning progress. This enhanced communication tool will foster stronger partnerships between home and school, ensuring that we're all working together to support our students' growth.

Kapa haka has kicked off for 2024 under the expert guidance of Matua Rawiri and Mrs. B. It's always inspiring to see our students embrace culture and showcase their talents through Kapa haka.

Congratulations to our Year 7 & 8 basketball teams for their fantastic performance in the recent competition. The girls' team secured victory in their grade, while the boys demonstrated exceptional skill as runners-up. We're incredibly proud of their sportsmanship and teamwork.

Technology classes at Te Aroha College have commenced for our Year 7 & 8 students every Thursday morning. This valuable opportunity allows our students to explore and develop a number of different new skills in a supportive environment.

Our senior leadership team and staff have embarked on an important journey to enhance our school's response to the New Zealand curriculum refresh. With the guidance of an external facilitator and the support of June McCaskill, we're committed to ensuring that our curriculum reflects the needs and aspirations of our students and community.

In sports news, our students have been active and engaged in a variety of activities, including the Football World Cup, the Hockey Big Day Out, and cricket sessions. It was also a privilege for our netball players to receive a session with a Silver Fern—a truly inspiring experience!

Additionally, our Junior students had a special visit from Reuben the Road Safety Bear, promoting important lessons in staying safe on our roads.

As always, our commitment to providing a well-rounded education remains unwavering. From academic excellence to cultural enrichment and sportsmanship, we strive to nurture the holistic development of every child at Te Aroha Primary School.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education journey. Together, we can empower our students to 'Accept the Challenge - Kia Tu, Kia Toa, Kia Mau'

Ngā mihi nui and have a safe and happy term break. We look forward to seeing everyone back in term 2.
