6th Grade News From the desk of Mrs. J. Peters, Assistant Principal

Hello 6th Grade Families,

We have had such a great full week at SMS! Students are finding their classrooms and getting to know one another on their teams. I have seen more smiling faces than ever before! I think we have a really nice class that has joined our middle school.

Thank you for sharing your child with us. If you have any questions and the year continues, please feel free to reach out to me.

Have a great week!

Mrs. J. Peters, Assistant Principal

Behavior Expectations at SMS

We have developed behavior expectations for all students at SMS. We have High Expectations and High Accountability for Everyone. Please take some time to read the content below so that you know and understand the process of discipline at SMS. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out with questions at any time.

One focus this year has been on our behavior systems and making sure we are holding our students to the high standards that we have here at SMS. To help with that we've made some changes to our behavior system and discipline.

Detentions

  • No longer after school
  • Will be served at 7:00 am and students need to report at that time to the main office
  • If a detention is not served, they will be give a Saturday detention
  • Saturday detentions will be held at the high school for 2 hours

Progressive Discipline for minor behaviors

  • Students can receive 3 detentions then they will be issued a Saturday Detention
  • Then students can receive 3 Saturday Detentions then they will be issued In-School Suspension
  • Then students can receive 3 In-School Suspensions before out of school suspensions will be issued

**This does not include major behaviors according to the hand book.

HERE is our OPEN HOUSE PARENT MEETING Slide Presentation to reference to if needed.

Understanding the "Why" in Math with Mrs. Checovich's and Mrs. Quien's Classes

The students are participating in cooperative learning groups as they collaboratively discover why they need math in their real lives outside of the classroom setting. Students are working together and building their Model Mustang skills as they gain a greater understanding of the "Why." Students are creating a mural illustrating the answer to the essential questions: "Why do we need math? How do we use math in our everyday lives? Why is math important? What careers require math?"

Arrival at SMS - Please read if you drive your child to school each day.

Please make sure that if you are dropping your child off at Door Q and/or Door R in the morning- that you arrive prior to 7:55am. Our doors will be locked at this time. If you happen to arrive after this time, please circle around the building to the main entrance and have your child report to the main office for a pass to class.

We need to make sure that your child is in attendance on time. If your child enters the building after 7:55am, he/she is late and has already been marked absent. In order to correct that, students must report to the main office and check in.

We have posted a sign at Door Q as a reminder. If the door is not open, please have your child enter through the main entrance at the front of the building instead.

Thank you Everyone for keeping our students safe at SMS.

HERE COMES THE BUS APP

"Here Comes The Bus" is an app for SCS families to track busing information and routes for their student(s), as well as real-time notifications.

The app and complementary website (www.herecomesthebus.com) - available on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, or personal computer - enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus on its daily route.

Download the "Here Comes the Bus" app to monitor daily transportation information. Families that utilized the app last year will need to delete last year’s student information and add their current year information in order to receive the latest routing details and updates. Click HERE for additional information and instructions on utilizing the app for your student's bus routes.
