Westmoor Weekly 01/09/26
January 9, 2026
A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
Happy New Year! I hope 2026 is off to a wonderful start for everyone. We were thrilled to welcome our students back to school this week, and the slightly warmer-than-average weather made the transition back even easier.
We kicked things off today with a fun and spirited welcome featuring our favorite football teams—Bears vs. Packers! Students entered the building through the door of their chosen team, with absolutely no pressure from staff whatsoever. 🙂
Starting next week and continuing through the 26th, students will participate in the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. During this same window, students will also complete the Wayfinder Curriculum Waypoints Assessment.
The Wayfinder Waypoints Assessment is a brief, student survey designed to help us better understand students’ social-emotional skills, strengths, and areas for growth. The information collected helps guide our efforts to create a positive, supportive learning environment and to provide appropriate academic and social supports. Results are used at the school level for planning and improvement purposes.
Also, be on the lookout for an email from me regarding some special activities next week.
Have a wonderful weekend.

A Message from Dr. Krauter's Class
Dear Families of Westmoor School,
Dr. Krauter’s class is collecting food to donate to the Northfield Food Pantry. Why are we doing this? We want to help reduce food scarcity and hunger. When are we doing this? We are collecting food from January 5th through the end of the month. How can you help? There will be bins at the playground entrances, at 5th grade doors, and in the office. You can donate shelf-stable food and nonperishable food. Your community and your neighbors need your help. Please donate now.
Sincerely,
Dr. Krauter and Ms. Nolan’s Third Grade Class

Share a picture with us!
We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.

DISTRICT NEWS
Attention 4th Grade Families: Math Placement
If your child is not currently placed in advanced math and you wish to request a math placement review, this parent nomination Google form must be completed by January 12, 2026.
Parent nomination Google form links can also be found on the District 28 website, under Gifted and Talented. Please visit our website for additional information on the district’s Gifted and Talented Services and District Assessments.
If you have a child in grade 3 or grade 5, you should have received an email on November 17 with information on placement review. For grade 5, this includes a review of all students for math placement in the winter and spring of their 5th-grade year. This process determines placement for 6th grade into one of three math courses: Grade 6, Accelerated 6, or Pre-Algebra 6.
Winter Weather Reminders
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. The District 28 weather policy is: Students go outside for recess every day as long as the "feels like" temperature is above 10 degrees. We use weather.com to be consistent. There are some days in the morning when it will not be warm enough to be outside, but by lunch recess, it will have warmed up. Please send your student daily with the items they will need throughout the day. Students must have boots, snow pants, and gloves to play in the snow.
Decisions about closing schools for inclement weather are made by the Superintendent of Schools, in coordination with other Northfield Township superintendents and local, county, and state emergency management officials. In the event of inclement weather, our priority is to close all schools. We have currently identified June 3-5, 8-9, 2026, as emergency days in the calendar. We will use those dates if we need to make up any inclement weather days this year. If the district cancels school, families will be notified via a phone call, text message, and email. You can also find the information on the district website, Facebook page, and Instagram page.
