Coupeville Schools are Strong!
February is Kindness Month!
Dear Coupeville School District Families,
As we enter the final week of February, I want to share some wonderful examples of how our community's spirit of kindness has been on full display across all our schools. The genuine care and support we've witnessed this month truly exemplifies what makes our district special.
Our Middle School Valentine's Dance was a tremendous success, made even more special by the generous donations of pizza from our local community members. This kind of community support shows our students that they are valued members of our broader Coupeville family. The joy and connection fostered during these events create lasting memories for our students.
At our Elementary School, the recent Character Awards celebration recognized students who consistently demonstrate kindness and positive behavior. These awards not only celebrate individual achievements but also inspire other students to embrace these important values in their daily interactions.
Our High School students have brought creativity and enthusiasm to their expression of school spirit, particularly through their "small lie" shirt day. This playful approach to building school community shows how our older students can foster connection and belonging while having fun.
These events across our schools demonstrate how kindness manifests in different ways:
- Through community generosity and support of our student activities
- In recognition and celebration of positive character traits
- Via creative student expression and school spirit
Research consistently shows that when schools and families partner in promoting positive behaviors, students develop stronger social-emotional skills and achieve better academic outcomes. The kindness initiatives we've implemented this month, combined with these wonderful community events, will continue to shape our school culture well beyond February.
Looking ahead, we invite you to join us in maintaining this momentum. Your engagement in your child's education and our school community makes a lasting difference. Whether it's volunteering in our classrooms, participating in school events, or simply reinforcing kind behaviors at home, your partnership helps create the supportive learning environment that makes Coupeville special.
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community and for helping us cultivate a culture where kindness is valued and practiced daily.
Warm regards,
Shannon Leatherwood, Superintendent Coupeville School District
