Principal's Message
Good evening, Yowell families. This is Mrs. Fiscus with your weekly update.
Students in grades three through five, tomorrow, August 24, is the last day to sign up for Sports Club. Musical practices also begin this week, so please check the newsletter for the rehearsal schedule.
On Tuesday, we are kicking off our annual school fundraiser! Thanks to the incredible support of our families these past few years, we were able to purchase a large piece of playground equipment for our second through fifth grade playground and have it installed over the summer. This year, we are hoping to keep that momentum going, and we have a little extra motivation planned. As we reach our fundraising goals, staff members will be getting SLIMED! And yes, when we reach the halfway point, yours truly will be getting slimed, too. Watch for more information coming home Tuesday!
This week, we will also conduct our first lockdown safety drill. Students in grades one through five will practice the procedures that help keep everyone safe at school. Preschool and kindergarten students will not participate in this first drill. During the drill, students will hear the announcement, “Lockdown, get to a secure location. Lock and barricade doors. Lights out and hide. Lockdown.” Our teachers will explain everything ahead of time and help students practice calmly.
Attention, fifth graders! You have the opportunity to join band and learn to play an instrument this year. Come to Culpeper Middle School this Wednesday, August 26, at 6 p.m. to watch instrument demonstrations, try different instruments, and sign up. If you have questions, please reach out to our band director, Mrs. Roach.
Finally, Friday is the last day to purchase the Chromebook Protection Plan. For $30, the plan covers up to two incidents of accidental damage during the school year. Accidents happen, and this protection can save your family from receiving an unexpected repair bill later. Please do not miss Friday’s deadline!
Have an amazing evening!
Mrs. Fiscus
Instrument Selection Night for Band is August 26th!
Attention 5th graders. You can join the band this year and learn how to play an instrument. You can even try the instruments before you choose what to play. Come out to CMS this Wednesday, August 26th at 6:00 pm. You will get to see demonstrations of the instruments, try them, and sign up for band! Reach out to Mrs. Roach at rroach@ccpsweb.org with questions.

Transportation Information
In an effort to assist schools and parents with current information about bus changes, transportation has added a new item on their website called: Transportation - Morning Update. The direct link can be found here. Also, this is the direct link to transportation.
Parents of students Pre-K through Grade 3 are expected to meet their children at the bus stop. Failure to do so will result in the child(ren) being returned to school. Should you choose to allow your child(ren) to be dropped off without supervision in the afternoon, please fill out and return this document.
We will be posting departure times for buses each day to assist parents with receiving their child from the bus stop. Please check this document each afternoon.
If your student requires transportation assistance, call the Transportation Department at 540-825-5446 or email them at transportation@ccpsweb.org
School Resource Officer (SRO)
We are happy to have a School Resource Officer (SRO) this year at Yowell. You can contact Deputy Kameron Buckhanan with any concerns you have with school safety or anything that would be related to criminal activity.
