A Note from the Principal's Desk

Greetings Hawthorne ES Parents/Guardians,

Happy Grandparents Day! At Hawthorne ES, we believe that a strong family partnership is key to a child’s success in school. Your involvement, whether through helping with homework, reading together, or simply offering encouragement, can make a significant difference in their learning and confidence. We look forward to seeing grandparents tomorrow, Monday September 9th for our Grandparents breakfast (7:00 am -7:45 am)

Reminder that we must work together to prevent more unlawful behavior and consequences that led to the unfortunate tragedy last week at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. We ask that all families actively monitor their children’s behavior and online activity. These simple steps can make all the difference:

  • Check your child’s bookbag and familiarize yourself with their social media accounts.
  • Monitor their electronic device usage and browser history.
  • Encourage them to report any suspicious activity to school officials.

Thank you to all that attended Spirit Night at Bubble Cream on Wednesday, September 4th, we truly appreciate your support.

As we move forward to the 6th week of school, please see important dates, we look forward to seeing you soon!

  • Grandparents Breakfast, Monday September 9th, 7am-7:45am
  • International Dot Day, Monday September 16th
  • See more upcoming dates on the calendar of events below.

Thank you always for entrusting us with the privilege of educating and nurturing your children!

Proud to Serve,

-Principal Henley

#Going for the G.O.L.D. (Growing Our Learners Daily)

Parents, your support is needed for Grandparents Day tomorrow Monday, Sept. 9th Parents, your support is needed for Grandparents Day tomorrow Monday, Sept. 9th

At Hawthorne ES, student safety is our top priority. We are committed to creating a secure and nurturing environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive. As part of our ongoing efforts, we want to share the steps we take to ensure the safety and well-being of all students on our campus.

Our Safety Measures Include:

  • Level 1 Security: All exterior and classroom doors remain locked throughout the school day.
  • Visitor Management System: All visitors are required to check in through the front office.
  • Emergency Drills: Regularly scheduled fire, severe weather, and lockdown drills are conducted to ensure students and staff are prepared for any emergency.
  • Supervision: Staff members are present throughout the school to monitor students during transitions, recess, and dismissal.
  • CRASE: Staff members have been trained - The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid Deny Defend™ strategy developed by ALERRT™ in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.
  • Centegix Crisisalert Badge: Every Staff member at HES wears a centegix crisisalert badge: The CrisisAlert badges serve as a silent panic alert system. Teachers and staff can now call for help with the push of a button on the badge they wear daily. When an alert is activated by pushing the button on the badge, administrators and resource officers can see who pushed the button and the location so they can send immediate help to protect our students and staff.

How You Can Help:

  • Update Contact Information: Please ensure that your emergency contact information is current in Infinite Campus.
  • Visitor Guidelines: When visiting the school, always check in at the front office and wear your visitor badge visibly.
  • Student Pick-up: If someone new will be picking up your child, notify the office in advance for directives to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal. The front office staff will verify ID upon arrival.

We believe that safety is a shared responsibility, and we greatly appreciate your partnership in keeping our students safe. If you ever have questions, concerns, or suggestions about student safety, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students.
